Interesting seeing as the 4.0.1 patch is heading for an imminent drop. Since blizz has stated that all balancing has been done around level 85 i see a lot of pvp qq heading our way between 4.0.1 and december 7.

It still is the most polished, pleasureable MMO experience out there, at least, till you run out of things to do. They have made it too easy, to be honest, and I doubt Cataclysm will change any of that, but for a fun questing spree and a few dungeon runs and raids? Im up for that. Gotta do something till Tera and GW2 come along.

Actually, they HAVE made it less casual-friendly. Just take a look at the difficulty of the new dungeon with some vids on youtube, you see people who clear the hardest raids wipe when they're getting overconfident.

Um...becareful daan.leijen how you phrase that. Blizz has gone back to old mechanics of single taget pulls with CC instead of AoE/hearding pulls. This is not necessarily hardcore by any stretch, and still is fairly casual friendly...just it takes longer now to clear intances for those who are patient. The problem being, it appears many have forgotten that stratergy of old, hense proceeding many a whipe you are perhaps witnessing.

Last time i checked, CC and target focusing were only really necessary in places like LBRS in classic and the raids (so the lvl-cap content). CC is already needed in the lvl 82 lvling dungeons, and i've seen vids op members of Paragon wiping on trash in heroics. Sounds somewhat harder then vanilla to me.

daan.leijen you either forget or never played Magisters Terrace when that first came out. That was a pretty hard dungeon at the time, you really needed CC and some good pulling/target focusing.

Anywho, I'm looking fwd to seeing what they did to the world, I've managed to avoid looking at most of the spoilers so far.

Great...

Now I'll be getting even more emails and calls from all my ex-guildies to come back now they have a date.

"Dude come back, Cat will awesome, it fixed all the bs from TBC and WotLK"
"Holy crap, you need to get the beta and what they did, its what WoW should have been."

bleh

All the WoW players can have Cataclysm, I wish them all the fun in the world, but I will not be joining in on the nerdgasm.

Shush, dont get my hopes up! I still remeber those awesome CC pulls in SSC and BT, and miss them greatly. HEll, I dont think IVe used sap in PvE since TBC. :S

IT would be nice to have content challenging but I think the general philosophy now at Bliz is that raids should be generally casual/puggable-easy on normal mode, and properly challenging on Heroic Modes. Ill settle with really hard HC dungeons (not raids), as the HC dungeons in wotlk were laughably clearable in 15-20 minutes, which is a far cry from what it was like in TBC.

CC will be required, mana will need to be managed by healers and heroics are quite hard from what i've seen, and you can't just walk into them anymore before grinding rep for gear and knowing your class.

Im a bit torn - I would love to see the dungeons and raids get harder as I remember the days when clearing an encounter actuallly meant something and you felt it was a great accomplishment which felt good, but as I am now resigned to PUGs and casual play (due to family committments) I would be worried as the players that play these days tend to leave and abandon you on the first wipe and at the first mistake people bitch and complain about you (which doesnt really happen in guilds whihc I cant committ to) so if they are harder this will hapen more regularly and I wont get to see the end of a dungeon!

I don't think anything will get harder for very long tbh. Look at the three dungeons they released when they opened ICC. They were quickly nerfed and aoed down from that point.

Hotfix (2010-01-05): The ghost waves at the beginning of both normal and heroic Halls of Reflection have undergone several changes that should make them easier to defeat such as preventing 2 mages or 2 mercenaries from spawning in the 5 mob pulls, a shorter duration of the spectral footman’s shield bash, and the spectral mage’s flamestrike having a longer cast time, shorter duration, and (in heroic) doing less damage.
Hotfix (2010-01-04): Gear requirements for Heroic increased.
Patch 3.3.0 (2009-12-08): Added.

The fact of the matter is most of WoW's playerbase does not want a challenge, they want a quick and painless road to purples. To keep that massive playerbase happy, Activision/Blizzard will do what it must.

I'd love to play this, but I can't afford to fork out for the original, TBC, WotLK and Cata. Can't play Euro realms again, the language barriers are horrendous. :(

If you wait a while I imagine Wrath will be packaged with the battle chest so you can get WoW plus the first two expansions in one go.

Even if you just pick up WoW with no expansions though, you'll still be playing with the redone old world.

Thank god guild wars 2 is going to be released in 2011 or I'd have to go back to wow,

I use to play wow for about 2 years, initial levelling wax by far the funnest part of it, but I quit a few months after beginning endgame raiding, the whole expeiroance then is just a big meta dictated grind.
Grind frost emblems every day, grinding gold for gems and enchants and then four hour sessions if raiding thrice a week?

I'm sorry that's not a game that's a job.

I'm a huge Guild Wars fan, can't wait for Guild Wars 2, but I'm tempted. I know some really fine people who play and love WoW. Of course they are all at very high levels, but it's a thought.

On the community -- I like small indie things but I loved Lord of the Rings, the books and the movies, which were immensely popular successes. Just because something is popular, that doesn't mean it's bad. And I'm so not an MMORPG elitist.
