Hello all. I have been looking to try out Aion but dont know anyone to get a friend trial code from.

I reallllllly do not understand why they dont just make an open trial, they would get soooooooo many more players from what Ive seen of the game. But I do need to try it.

If any1 has a free trial code, please paste it here, or leave your email or email me at xaospro@yahoo.com - I would appreciate the help! Thanks!

Good article. I remember going rifting a few months ago to do spy quests, it was a lot of fun! Now it's near impossible to get any spy quests done.

I'll also sign off on "Buff Activation" , I like the idea.

I used to dislike rifting because I always got my ass handed to me. But once I got high enough to rift I tried it out and absolutely loved it. I was never able to find out the true extent of it before it got nerfed but I hear the nerf made it more fair and better.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting ganked in Eltnen anymore. This must be why.

As a gankee and not a ganker I've got to say that it's nice to be able to get things done for a change.

Thanks for the heads up. This is a useful article. I'm afraid, however, that I don't really have an opinion on how to change it. As it is I'm having a bitch of a time completing the few spy quests I have. Can someone please tell me why the rift behind Eltnen fortress spawns so rarely?! I can't even complete the quest any more as I'm above the rift level!!

Thanks again for the article and please keep it up.

The nerfing has made it fair, especially when some high lvl player tries to gank
lowbies. I'm not much of PvPer but it does make the game more challenging.
It forces you to join legions or groups to either quest or just PvP.
What I don't like about the Rifts is that you never know where exactly the rifts
open on the map on that particular time. And only a certain amount of players
are allowed thru them.

I'm not sorry to see rifting nerfed to the ground. The community could have gotten NCSoft to change the game long ago, but only start to "offer suggestions" now that NCSoft had gotten tired of bleeding subscribers and took out the nerfbat.

I only wonder why it took NCSoft so long. If I were the management, I would have fired the whole team in charge of subscriber retention.

LOL@Aion yet again. I played this terrible game for about two months and quit for reasons that extend far beyond the formerly-supremely-unfair-gankfest-meant-for-idiots-who-cannot-truly-PvP-so-they-kill-lowbies-all-day "rifting" system, but I will offer this: Aion is dying for myriad reasons, and even myself, a huge PvPer in other MMOs, have to laugh at this "new and improved" rifting. NCSoft has bludgeoned this game to death, and it sure as hell isn't going to get any better now. Those of you foolish to actually pay a monthly fee to play this eye-candy trash, I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.

" Obviously, alienating one-half of your target market doesn't seem to make good business sense, a fact recognized by both sides. How can we fix this latest "fix," to appease all sides and bring together both elements of the game?"
Endquote]

It never was "one half" of the population, Gank rifters were barely an 1/8th of the poulation or less when there was a population, In my short one month i only had the same two magic users farming me and others on a regular basis. The few ruined the game along with the ignorant crafting mechanic, thats what killed this game, plus alot of stale endgame that had zero creativity and still does from what i am told by some irritating friends that are aion diehards.

Quote[
"We are still trying to figure out what our western players want in regards to content"
Endquote]

The above direct quote, barely a month and change old, from NCsoft is telling of their mind set and how clueless they actually are.

To all the kids out there, to all the young adults out there getting a masters or higher, keep this in mind, common sense and creativity tend to be pushed to the wayside when you begin recieving "higher education" i know, one reason i stopped, aside from really not needing it anymore since i retired 5 years ago. The transformation from wild eyed wonder to dull intellectual is subtle and you may not notice it, but others will, and seldom in a good way. NCsoft certainly hasnt and they pay for it everyday.

The only thing NCSoft has going for it, is ArenaNet, otherwise they are a clueless Asian company that needs to learn to do real research before jumping into the Western market.

Rifting wasn't fun at all. Most of the time it was getting stunlocked and ganked, calling the 50s in the zone for help to camp the person. If there were no 50s, or it took too long, you could spend hours unable to do much of anything.

When I played it felt that you had to grind to 50 just to cut down the disparity in gear and levels. As a newbie in greens rifting was just me getting killed over and over, and its impossible to react to as you are fighting mobs while you were.

All those PvPers missing it should realize how many of us quit over it, and the grind needed just to survive it.

Thanks for the article. I agree, rifting was always something neat about Aion. "Neat" quickly turned into frustration. Frustration quickly turned into a cancelled account.

There wasn't a happier medium than killing the concept? Fix the Abyss points (make rifting just for fun, not for grinding AP). Add more guards. Nerf rangers.

I have to make a comment here.

after hearing that ganking is mostly dead in Aion, I returned to a game I really enjoy, glad that the one and only reason I couldn't stay with the game is now gone. you said in your article:

"While I am all for enforcing more even matches and fostering some challenging PvP, the current system is akin to telling a soldier to strip down naked, leave his weapons on the ground, and then march into enemy territory to fight."

I disagree. In a war, there is a warzone. Everyone that enters that warzone is prepared for war, and has a safer haven to return to. When those soldiers go back home to their families and normal jobs, do they have to worry about a sudden enemy attack? There is a dedicated "warzone" in Aion. Abyss. (possibly some of the new areas in the expansion. I'm only level 20 at the moment.)

For those that want a more balanced PvP experience, there is a place to do that. I believe that is what it was always designed for. Is the new debuff a little extreme? maybe. Is that what we need to enforce a little decorum? Unfortunately, yes.

hatri1181 i disagree totally with you.
This is a PvPvE game, and you have only one type of server.
The Rifts times was awsome, thats why they call them rifts ... you can infiltrate in you called "safety zone". For me, is Adrenaline factor with fun factor.

The game had this, and you buy a game with this. Why you always cry about if you dead when somebody kill you? If you buy a car with 1.2cc, you complain to the brand company about why your car is 1.2cc? For me is no sense.

Now, gankin low level ... yeah is completely stupid, but NCSoft can easily fix this issue.
1. Anytime enemy/group enemy enter in zone, you recieve a alert
2. You can't attack any player 5 lower lvls than you ... i mean, you can, but if you attack you suffer a penalty debuff (armor/dmg) and you and your group appear in their map (with alerts) in some period of time
3. If Any low lvl hits you 3 times (example) you can attack him without debuff. He can win the debuff "Stupid ftw" lol.

The game need more love for PvP, LESS grind, LESS gear dependent.
Ah, Gain Abyss Point killing Elites and mobs in Abyss? The most stupid ideia who want pvp gear.

Btw, they want pvp? Put ALL instances avaliable to enemy, ie In 6 group instance the enemy can "invade" your instance with group of 6 too. All instance stop (timers and agro mobs) and lets defeat the invaders. Ofc with prizes who win the encounter.
The lvl factor debuff can apply in this encounters also.

PS: Sry for my low lvl English xD

I had fun in my lowbie days, even when I was getting ganked in Moreheim. It was kinda exciting to be minding my own business gathering or questing, then suddenly get ganked with no chance of winning. The good thing is that there is no real penalty for death by PvP, just having to run back to where you were. The bad thing was when it happened over and over until you realized that you'd better just take a break, because the rifters were there.

How about reducing the nerf by 50%, but giving a PvP kill limit? After 10 PvP kills, you are rescricted from the rift for a few hours. Problem solved!
