Fans may not be 100% on board with everything they're hearing about Guild Wars 2 lately, but there's one thing nearly all of them can agree on: the game is gorgeous.
One of the features that has gained attention is the cinematics. We saw a couple of them at the recent Gamescom and PAX demos, and now that we've had some time to enjoy the finished product, James Boer has some stories to tell about the creation of that product.
James is the Audio and Cinematics Programmer at ArenaNet and the mind behind the latest blog post. His entry is all about the philosophy and technical work behind the creative process. While this entry is a bit heavier on the tech-speak than most of the ArenaNet blog, fans who are interested in the behind-the-scenes work of GW2 will find it a great read.

I wouldn't say the fans aren't a hundred percent on board, they just are skeptical, and after all the current screw-ups in the genre in general, I wouldn't blame them either. Too much potential flushed down the toilet and wasted by greed and/or poor handling.

Cinematics in GW2 are actually the one thing I dislike about the game. Not that they're BAD, the style just isn't all that appealing to me. Like the mini-cine's ingame, looks like a bunch of photoshop brushes layered.

I'm afraid I have to second that. Can't really argue about taste though, so I won't comment the cinematics any further here. I'm very much looking forward to GW2 though and can't wait to experience the gameplay.

I'm sick of CG cinematics. This new artistic direction is a good choice.

cg only camouflages shortcomings of products. makes the look more awesome than they are. just look at the warhammer online movies.

Agreed CG trailers for a MMO are not that smart.
More often then not it shows things that are not even in the game.
Personally I feel CG trailers are often deceptive in nature.

And on the note of not being a 100% on board, I would say thats a perfectly natural reaction to the way the genre has been going.
The thing with GW2 is that there is still far more to like about the game then to dislike.

Just pointing out that they seemed to miss the point of the article.
