They may be great at RP, and that's fine, but they suck... I mean they SUCK at playing through simple dungeons. Wicanna has many other "RP" guilds that can raid and PVP...

Really? I ran several successful Khitai 6-mans with them, so I find that hard to believe. Thanks for reading though.

I've been an mmoRPG (emphasis on the RP part) player for over 10 years myself. And a member of Venja for about a month (which is as long as I've played AoC). The article here is spot on.

I've in in other "hardcore RP guilds" where the storylines usually end up being more about making the author feel more important. Here you feel like there is a story within the game world that you're discovering bit by bit. Whether by interacting with other members (some of the coolest and most helpful player's I've played with) or by reading about the others adventures.

Have really enjoyed my time here so far and am interested in getting more involved in the storylines soon. The comment about the time commitment is right too. But I'm having fun; so I don't mind.

Once in a long time comes along a collective that is run by people who care about RP deeply. Venja represents a group of souls who want to RP yet employ the mechanics of the world into which they are thrust. This is no easy task, but here, in this group, and thanks to the planning of the founders, that is just what has developed. It is not a group for those who wish to 'Hack and Slash' and then brag upon 'made up' adventures which have very little relationship to what has happened in game. It takes patience and commitment, but when that commitment is given the rewards are seen and felt on a level that is seldom reached in such games.

AoC means a lot of things to a lot of people. Look at Global chat for instance. For my part, AoC is about immersing yourself into the character and having a great time doing it...and for a Server (Wiccanna) that is the 'unofficial' RP site, there really isn't a lot of RP going on.

Having come from Set, I've run with some of the big boys in the Guild World. And while they do have the 'raiding' aspect down, the RP element is merely overlooked. Now, look at Wiccanna. All these RP guilds and nobody is roleplaying. So, let me clarify that. I do not consider aiding a "Hail" or "Greetings" to addressing a teammate as roleplaying. This is where the Venja Cartel comes in. I've tried other guilds (including all the big ones) and not one of them roleplays the character roleplaying. That's something new. To have your character on top of your guild city roleplaying out Gambling, a Tournament, etc using dice alongside other members is something altogther new and exciting. It breaks up the boring side of AoC - the grinding. So to put aside a Sunday night and meet up with others to roleplay out a Martial Tournament is a nice change of pace.

And while the 'Raiding aspect' might not yet be there as MLK points out, who cares! I didn't join Venja because they were the top raiders. There are too many guilds for that and other Servers. I joined because of the roleplaying aspect. And in that regard they leave the other guilds behind.

You really won't find a more immersive guild, and they put a lot of effort into making an interactive story arc that really involves other players, and isn't just a story made for the teller.

As for PvP, not everyone in guild is top-notch, of course (what guild has that?), but Venja has a good share of extremely knowledgeable and capable fighters. Add in the fun atmosphere and cooperation among players, and you have a really pretty sweet place to hang out.

Having known these guys for a very long time, I would recommend them to others who want to have a deep roleplay experience -- especially as more and more titles make it next to impossible to have that through game mechanics.

These guys are some of the best RPers I've had the pleasure of playing several MMOs with. I definitely reccomend this guild to anyone on AoC looking to join a heavy, immersive RP group.

I was with these guys back in the Aion days, and I say that it's about time that all the hard work Dan, Nicole and Jo put into this guild be recognized. Their work takes a bunch of their OOC time, and it's great to see that there are those who appreciate what they do for us as much as their guild members do. This guild, officers and members alike make up an incredible sense of belonging if your looking for great RP, and looking to be apart of a family of sorts. I would give this guild ten gold stars for just making my time in AoC worth wild. Thank you guys for such a kick ass time with everyone of you.

These guys are great. I have been in alot of Rp guilds in alot of games and as JohnnyRay said most just end up with a bunch of people godmodding to make themselve seem special. Venja gets rp they understand how to do it and how to do it well. Along with that comes a great group of people that will work with you to make your experience fun and rewarding. You couldnt ask for more.

I have literally been in almost every so-called "RP" guild on the Wiccana server...Black Ravens, Invisible Fist, Grey Order, House of Lemuria, Meryt Netjer, Atlantean Embers, to name a few. NONE of them compare to the immersive experience offered by Venja Cartel.

Having played in and run tabletop RP games for thirty-plus years, I know the kind of hard work that goes into creating an engaging and entertaining adventure, and doing so inside an MMO is no different. My hat is off to Khethys, and it is my hope that my time in Venja will lead to a long and rewarding experience.

I guess I am blessed. I joined AoC and stepped right into Venja after playing for a number of years within a different MMO. I've seen all sorts of RP guilds, the good, the bad, the worse, and until now, what I thought was the best. I could not have been more wrong. Venja and the leadership team running the show are more amazing than anything I could have imagined. Finally, RP for the true intellectuals who have been searching for something more than tavern talk and pvp disguised as role play. Some players may not like the format. I can understand. It does force the player to think, to plan, to create and develop a deeper understanding of lore and just good old fashion story telling. It's not for everyone. But it is for me, and I could not be happier. Thank you, Venja crew. Your hard work is appreciated.

I never very much felt apart of something up until I found myself joining up with this group of talented writers and team leaders nearly two years ago. Their thoughtfulness and consideration of every person within the guild really drives home the philosophy that, as roleplayers, we are all here to creatively enrich each other.

In a gaming community, as mentioned, where hostility towards roleplayers grows, Venja is quite literally an oasis for people who want to nurture a character out of their avatar with a story and voice of their own. And what a gorgeous and lush oasis! As mentioned in the article, Khethys has really poured so much devotion and artful craftsmanship into something where you and your character are invited to explore and grow. The care and detail in Venja is befitting of a novel, however, you are no reader, but a participator.

The Venja leaders work their hardest and always explore to the farthest reaches their talents will guide them. It's been such a wonderful experience and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

A wonderful article, and a wonderful guild!

Age of Conan is the second game I've played with the leaders of Venja, and I certainly hope it won't be the last. The guys (and gals :) ) at the helm really know how to bring fun and intrigue into their RP events, whether it's a gathering for the whole guild or a personal storyline tailored just for your character.

It's just a bonus that Age of Conan offers in-game mechanics, like a d6 game, which has allowed the Venja leaders to further the RP experience with the brilliant ideas like a quasi-tabletop Prestige system. And while roleplay may be the spotlight of the Venja experience, it's the great group of people behind the characters who keep members like me logging on for more. :)
