Jumpgate Evolution forum members will be happy to hear that the old JGE forums are a thing of the past.
The new forums went online today, replacing the old ones that a NetDevil staffer referred to as "broken in many ways." As with many new sites, this one still has a few bugs to be fixed and additions to be made, so the News and Announcements forum contains a welcome post with a list of known issues.
That post explains how players can bring their login information to the new forum and gives a list of features that are still in the completion process. The forums and subforums are all functional -- though missing a few bells and whistles -- so check them out for yourself!

Can't say I blame ya for that comment. The first eleventy million times I heard it, I just thought "troll", but damned if I'm not starting to believe it myself.
I used to lurk the forums daily, always trying to find that new tidbit of info or pretty screenshot, but alas, you can't string me along indefinitely.
I've stopped lurking long ago, and have essentially scratched it off my watch list, but I will say, you can bet that the day when (if) this game is finally released, I'll be first in line to pick up a copy.

Maybe. Probably not. If Netdevil makes enough money from its Lego Universe contract with Lego, they will be able to fund Jumpgate Evolution to completion.

And in mean time Black Prophecy will be released and well established space twich based MMO that has exactly the same set of features as JGE promised long time ago.
No mater how you turn it. The game is now just a pointless place holder on their web space.

I want a space sim MMO:
1. where you sit in the cockpit of most ships.
2. Where co-op ships exist (larger ships that utilize gunners and such)
3. Where capitol ships need serious co-op to operate (think guys in the engine room, navigators, gunners, captain, etc...)
4. Where guilds/players own starbases and can set their own laws, build defenses, etc... (basically player towns really)
5. Sandbox gameplay - but also clear goals within the game.

as broken as the old forums may have been, this is a good way to "reinvent" JGE; all the old posts are gone and it's not going to be unlikely that new ppl find the game without knowing of all the old baggage :p

Well seeing as how the new Jumpgate Evolution is nothing like its prior two versions and has exactly nothing except setting / story in common with the first JG. I can't really see how a clean slate could be anything but a good thing.
This new JGE is nothing like what was talked about with the past JGE. The one where missions where dynamic and NPCs could be seen running cargo between stations and a player or another NPC could attack them at any time and a mission would be generated to defend the cargo runner or help destroy him. The JGE that had an amazing crafting / economy model. Thats all long gone with this new version of JGE.
The new JGE is a arcade space shooter that has virtually no crafting and nothing outside of running PVE missions and/or instanced space pvp combat. Most PVP will take place inside of an arena type instance area where your objects are clear cut. Rather its kill all of the enemy team, defend an objective, capture an objective its all going to be alot of the same old same old we seen in our current fantasy RPG MMOs.
It's sad that the original JGE goal / vision was scrapped because there engine / lack of resources could not handle it. But I guess atleast we have Black Prophecy to fall back on. Seems like its going to be the closest thing to a realtime space combat Eve that we will get for some time.
