The MMO Report shakes up the formula this week as host Casey Schreiner devotes his entire show to a special look at Trion's upcoming Rift: Planes of Telara MMORPG. Featuring gameplay footage and interview snippets with producer Adam Gershowitz, the segment fills viewers in on Rift's unique backstory as well as various dynamic gameplay features including, of course, the titular planar rifts.
Gershowitz also goes into detail regarding the game's classes, including the ability to "take a variety of different classes and mix them together [using] the ascended soul system."
Check out all the Rift footage after the cut or at G4TV.com.

The game looks great. But PLEASE don't hype like it's the coming of the second Jesus. And PLEASE don't put a former developer from WAR hyping the game!!!
It brings a lot of bad memories.

Hmmm...I'm wondering, have they released all the races they're going to put in this game?

I know I have bashed this game in one way or another just based on the lame species choices but i have to say , I'm kind of getting a little excited for it. The idea of a dynamic world is really cool. I just hope they mean it. Not just "x faction owns this area - y faction own this crap no one cares about"
I would like to echo my new friend Pedro up there, curb your enthusiasm on this one. please and thank you

...well...if Uncle Casey's mailbag doesn't spawn from one of those rifts, I think I might be okay with this game. :)

Did they ever settle the Rifts lawsuit (Palladium games?)

It's currently in open mediation (read: time before the hearing date) and due to go up in the first of 2011 if no settlement is reached in the interim.
Yeah, we're keeping an eye on it. ;)

Still not interested in this game until they confirm Coalition SAMAS as playable Occupational Character Class.

Considering it has nothing to do with Palladium's RIFTS as an IP, I doubt that you're going to see that particular class.

Fantastic...Non-stop fire-works show spell effects with NCSoft style character movement and a Warhammer global-cool down spell bar. It's good to see that no matter what game we play, Oblivion, EQ2, or RIFT, there's that old trusty VOID ensuring a good invasion of creatures knocking on the door of adventure. Never an out of work Void creature in today's MMO. What is an MMO these days? Cool special effects, advancement trees that mimic a 12 point tuneup at JiffyLube, and a lot of Wow wallpapered in superficiality.
Where are the branches snapping under our feet, as we creep closer to an old door lurching in the shadows beneath some giant tangled tree roots. Our chainmail slinks and sways while clanking an early warning of our approach. Rust glazes our sword teamed with bitter cold to aid our foe. Just a blade, some tattered armor, a lint-filled coin purse, and an empty belly devour our fear and push us closer to the massive door beneath the towering trees.
Tearing through silence as our breath escapes in terror the forest floor shrieks to the rhythm of hoof beats approaching from behind.
Where's the rusty plate, chain or tattered leather. Highwaymen laying claim to a trail leading between town and outpost. Castles under siege with farmlands, shops, and taverns texturing the landscape. Sailing ships with barrels of imports, stowaways, sightings of peglegs and a tale of murder while at sea. Miners, woodworkers, craftsmen and artisans blanketing the south side of a city filled with guards and militia. While beyond the cemetery bandits inspire a poet perched above them as they revel in thievery.
Nah, in one of the only MMOs on the horizon we're about to be fed Spawn re-branded as Dynamic, with regurgitated flash wrapped up into Adventugrind that leaves us with shiny weapons, oversized shoulders, and a need to grind the Void tomorrow too.
MMO? We haven't seen a real one in years. RIFT will be the Star weather balloon in a UFO sighting.
