Age of Conan's Craig Morrison has been a busy man of late. When he's not generating discussion fodder on his personal blog or overseeing the setup of Funcom's new production studio in Montreal, he's finding time to chat up the AoC community on the forthcoming additions to the game via his monthly development update series. Morrison enlists the help of two additional Funcom developers in the latest installment, beginning with lead systems designer Einar Forselv, who talks a bit about the incoming PvP additions.
Not only is a new PvP minigame in the works, but an entirely new game mode is coming along with it. The new mode, called Conquest, will make its debut in the new mini -- The Call of Jhebbal Sag -- and will find players fighting for control of a strategic location in the Pictish wilderness. Funcom has also added a new wrinkle in the form of resource points that fluctuate depending on how well your team is doing at holding capture points. The new mini will feature two groups of six for a total of 12 players per side, and it will also allow players to bring their mounts into a minigame battle for the first time.
Lest you think the 2.1 update series is solely focused on PvP, Morrison also taps dynamic gameplay designer Tanya Short for a bit of an explanation about the social features coming soon to a server near you. She provides a bit more info on the activities briefly mentioned in last month's letter. "This patch introduces two major social content additions: guild events and horse racing. Both will hopefully provide guilds and roleplayers with some fun activities and offer an interesting diversion for everyone who wants to try them," she writes.

It is sad that all that can be offered to role players is a lame, "Oh now you can race horses now!" That isn't role-playing, that is a mini-game. You know what we generally want? A better place to hang out and RP other then a single tavern in the main city. This doesn't do anything for roleplayers, and is the reason the Cimmeria server is borderline empty.
I quit this game because they NEVER even bothered to help the rp community there.
If I might paraphrase Kanye West,
AoC doesn't care about role players.

Chav, quite frankly you are everything that is wrong with RP currently. You're the same type of person who quite frankly is so dull and uninspired that if you play LotRo you would probably hang out in the Prancing Pony or around there in Bree, /walking everywhere drawing attention to yourself with that nice smug sense of superiority. I have seen people roleplay in Cimmeria, Stygia, from the low level zones to the high level zones. Every racial city is huge and there are tons of places to roleplay. Maybe instead of hanging out in "one tavern" (which is false by the way, there are many taverns in various places all around the world), you can set up some roleplay in something a bit less cliche than the tavern.
As for the Cimmeria server being "borderline empty," I'd love to know where you got those figures. It is easily the second most populated server in the game. There are so many wonderful locations, so many beautiful vistas, secluded spots full of mystery, and place after place that is just teeming with adventure and roleplay opportunity, but apparently you don't know about that because you sit in a tavern all day and wait for the RP to come to you. Developers are in no way neglecting RP, its the RP community that quite frankly sucks a big one (with minor exceptions.) So please, take some initiative, get out of the god danged tavern, and enjoy the RP you create instead of complaining about it.

Dude you're talking out of your arse. If you need a designated area to role play in then you clearly have no concept of what roleplaying is about. And as others have already pointed out, there are tons of places all around the world where people could gather if they had a mind to. Try using yours for once.

funny, as pvp'ers are moaning about FC only catering to RP'ers, RP'ers whining about PvE'ers, and those dont want this, and all dont want that.
i couldnt care less, i'm enjoying the game^^

I have recently levelled a toon on AoC to mid 20s on a PvP server.
The game is under rated but still seems to have a reasonable amount of newbies and people playing.
RP'er should be using there Rp'ness to be able to RP in any situation, on a train or in game.
The game is finally my fix after the loss of another amazing game TCoS.. AoC is a gamer game, it is hard core and doesn't have any pretense.
FATALITY... you are dead.. love it!

I see they are taking some ideas from EA and DICE on pvp game types, the "new" ideas seem exactly like the things we see in BC2 and Modern warfare multiplayer, sans the guns.

There's always roleplaying events and gatherings on the Wiccana server for those who wish to participate in them.
