Thanks, Matt, for putting into words exactly my first thought when I saw that image.

Some of the armors in this game look pretty good, but that "armor" -- and similar TERA attire -- just makes me lol every time I see it.

Same here. The movement in this title is also funny as hell, at least a few different classes "seem" to run and move a little less, alluringly, for want of a more derogatory term.

I really like the animations in those videos. Particularly, I enjoyed the archer's hair bounce and the sorcerer's roll when she was knocked down.

Looks is definitely one department in which Tera isn't lacking. It still has that eastern mmo aesthetic but somewhat stylized ala World of Warcraft.

It's pretty.

i'll be honest the game play looks really dull. Like every other MMO. What this games selling point? From these videos it look like i could be playing Aion.

First off, you can actively dodge monsters attacks... it's no longer just sit there and roll the RNG. Second, you have to actively target the mob, no tab targeting and hit a button.

Will the game be good? Who knows if it can deliver on expectations. I'm always a cynic and expect failure. But I don't see how anyone can say that there are no new selling points. Just the fact that is has an active combat system is a huge difference compared to current MMO fare. There are only a couple games out there which have active systems (Darkfall, MO, others?). From watching the video the fat mob that thrashes around and jumps to sit on you is way more advanced than any mob interaction ever took place in Darkfall.

So these are the only videos you've watched? Usually ranged dps combat IS dull. Check out the berzerker, slayer and lancer vids. This is far from Aion lol.

Question, what does this have to do with Aion? The ONLY thing in common they have is the eastern looks of the characters, which I find awesome btw. If you think the game will make your jaws drop then it probably won't. None MMO will. But it still is one of the best games coming next year along with gw2, rift and tor. And it's not dull, I've played the game during FGT2 and it's not hack n slash as some people will spread. It's just your normal MMO with twitch based play which is rather interesting. If you find this gameplay dull, then I don't know what you think about the other MMOs?

I find most other MMO combat dull too. Thats why I've been on an MMO break for the last 5 months or so. I have fallen asleep killing bears with hotkeys more times than I can count. Just because this has a reticle to aim doesn't make it any more or less interesting than every other game. Yes the style is the same as Aion and The game play looks like it too just with an aiming reticle, thats why i said that.

well in the span of your two comments, you couldve done yourself a favor and looked for other videos of tera and answered your own question. artistic similarities have little to do with gameplay similarities.

Or maybe you people could stop getting hyper everytime you dont like someone's opinions and comments. If differing opinions bother you well I guess you better stop looking at forum comments because there will be differing opinions. Not everyone is going to think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread as you do or vice-versa.
IMO it looks as dull as any other mmo, mobs standing around with their thumbs up there butts waiting to get beat on, no real sense of purpose of being there-not setting up camps and fires preparing for a seige building something til you interupt them or actively attacking the city etc.,just fodder for the "grind".

Does anyone know if Tera's world is continuous (for the most part) from zone to zone (like WoW) or is it instanced (like AoC)?

Continuous. A video they showed earlier featured a player taking off on a gryphon away from one of the capital cities, and the game kept rolling. They even turned the camera in the direction of the city shortly after they left to show just how far the draw distance was and how detailed the horizons are. It was pretty slick.

Aww what happened to all the fluid combat that was in the earlier videos where everybody was moving around all over the place while fighting. They were both rooted while doing most their attacks. I thought they were going for more of an action oriented style game play. Like a hack&slash 3rd person shooter type deal.

The gameplay doesn't look like Aion specifically with aim, it looks like any other MMO with aim. The comparison of this game to Aion is not valid, Personally, I would take it as an insult if I was a developer of this game and you compared it to Aion. I hope you will get to try this game before you make up your mind for good.
