Now if they would do a couple of PvE servers they could give those of us who are not into PvP a new home, a population that vastly outnumbers the PvP population. Just 2, I ask for, only 2.

You "omg need pve server" guys need to give it a rest, and do some reading before hand.

There will be 'high security' areas where you cannot be PK'd, where you can craft dance or do whatever.

*IF* you want to progress to the higher end of the game, you either have to goto the lawless areas for resources, barter the public that do go into no-mans land for said resources, or belong to a guild/corp that ferries high end resources back to the 'safe' areas for process.

So yes, there will be enough carebear friendly territory for you to live your life in, if that is what you choose.

NO! The point of Earthrise is to have a player driven game, where the players are the ones that make the world evolve and change. A PvE game doesn't have a changing world, Paragon City, Azeroth, Middle Earth, the only change that ever happens to the structure of the world is when the devs decide to redo a zone, and that's what, pretty much never?

If you take a game that is built to change and evolve by the players and throw a PvE sticker on it... it's not going to work. The story of a player driven game is created by the players, not by the developers. So by branding it PvE and taking the PvP out, you get a stale boring game.

If you look back as some of the biggest moments in EVE you think of the recent investment scam, Hulkageddon, Band of Brothers fall, Goon Swarm demise, all player generated memories! The best part is that they all happen in an instant, and BAM the whole scope of the world has changed.

A player run world is unpredictable, and that's why I don't want PvE servers, because that precisely what I want to do every day when I get in game, wonder what happened while I was away, because there may be some new opportunities for me.

The sandbox is what makes Earthrise, so if you take that away, you don't have a game anymore. If you want PvE, there are a million and a half games that are PvE centric, but only a few that are PvP centric, don't take that away from Earthrise.

What you PvP purists don't get is the safe-zones are not that big. They are a very small part of the game world. If you want to explore and adventure you MUST enter PvP zones. This is unacceptable for a lot of people.

I'm not even saying change the game to be more PvE centric. I'm saying if they have a multi-shard server system toss the PvE crowd that dominates MMORPGs a couple of PvE servers just as PvE MMORPGs often get PvP servers up for PvP players. What is so wrong with that? Its the same as the standard but in reverse.

A player Driven game concept does not necessitate server wide PvP. It can but it does not have to.

Although I agree with your sentiment Angel...but how would a PvE server work in a sandbox game where, "There are no rats that can drop you a high-tier rifle; no bosses with epic loot that out-stats every other item in the game; no quest will supply you with good gear - you have to rely on crafting or larceny to earn your bread," as Atanasov has stated?

It's not that they can switch on certain zones to flag you or not, like Blizz can does with PvP servers in WoW. Since Earthrise's economy is so tied to the game, Masthead would have to redesign a whole second underlying mechanic and philosophy...so that their game world dynamics can be rewritten to run on PvE servers with instances, bosses, lore and mobs inplace of hostile players. This would be mind-numbing complicated for then to do and I doubt they have the patience, desire or investment to do that.

I also suspect you can create a player driven game that based on PvE - sounds like what ArenaNet are doing with GW2 inpart with their dynamic quest system. But Earthrise isn't one of those games for it. Nor should it be.

That all sounds good, great even, like mana from heaven... until we get to the part about "...or larceny to earn your bread" which I translate as free for all PvP where you can kill someone and take whatever is in their inventory. I truly hope this isn't going to be another sandbox killed and urinated on by FFA PvP.

I guess you are SOL because there is FFA pvp in this game... the devs say however that 5% of the map will be pvp free and that crafter's can play the game without venturing out into pvp zones.. but if you want to make the best time you might need to hire escorts to take you to the materials.

If it's like EVE, that might be fun. I was thinking more along the lines of Darkfall. I'm certainly open to trying something like that for sure.

The game does have an insurance system, even an emergency insurance system that you can activate for a large markup over standard price if you forgot to get insurance and are killed out in the world.

Starting to sound like SWG with an EVE feel.... I think I'm liking this... a lot. Sandbox plus Sandbox = awesomeness fantastico?

I was excited about Earthrise, about two years ago. Then all the updates stopped coming and I stopped paying attention. Nowadays? Unless the release is imminent I would personally keep a low profile and focus on working on the game if I were them.

What I'm reading sounds good, but with several major MMO releases due in the next couple of months, it seems unwise to be squandering public interest when they can't seem to give a solid indication of when I might be playing this.

Really interested in this game. Don't mind the idea of FFA PvP but have never found an MMO with a setting (Darkfall) or gameplay (Eve) that interests me.

Show me what the repercussions are for being a douchebag and then I'll start to get excited about this game.

I don't need to spend my entertainment hours being reminded of just how bad people can be when there is nothing restricting them from being a total asshat.

Glad to see the recent influx of news for this title. Hoping it can be my new game soon, or atleast something for when I need a Darkfall break.

Truth is, I die too much in Agon.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the challenge this game represents. I have no need to be hand-held and guarded like a frightened care-bear, :P. I truly desire a sandbox game with open PVP, like EVE Online, but with humanoid avatars!

I was excited about this game a year ago then forgot about it until recently when all the news came out. The I heard it was going to be open PvP and my heart sank and pretty much dismissed it as Im a PvE guy. However after reading these comments and the dev blogs, I am really getting interested in a game where every time I go out into the wilderness there is a real danger and where there is risk there is excitement and that really appeals to me. I am crap at PvP so will probably get my ass handed to me most of the time but it will be exciting and make the few victories and successful resource gathering missions to high level areas all the more rewarding. Hopefully they make the world MASSIVE so you can really feel like you are exploring a strange new world.

Cant wait now!

Here's the problem with PvE servers on a game like Earthrise:

Without player conflict there would be no market for the things produced, and there would be no way to ensure control over resources.

This would not be good for the economy.

If you don't like PvP, then the best thing to do would be to team up with someone who does like it and get them to defend your operations in return for a share of the profits.
