Good move by them. This might give anyone sitting on the fence that subtle push to buy GR.

As far as expansions go, GR is ok. City of Repetition is at it again but it is fun for the first bit. Once they realize we're here to play a game and not read a story then we may get some awesome additions. The new zones look good but the mission maps are pure rubbish. It's like they took a shortcut and just focused on the zones. Weak.

Also, it seems this game is trending away from giving us anything really decent for free. You have to pay for costumes via booster packs (which have also deteriorated in quality and you get less now) and the expansion. The 'free' issues/upates have really sucked lately. Mission Architect was a ton of work on a feature that was so so.

Apparently this game's dev team is huge now in comparison to around i11. I jumped on at the i11 point and, to date, the best update was i12 IMO. They did more then. It's too bad this game is trending in a bad direction (monthly sub and micro transactions). It seems we get less now.

GR is worth a look but I am ending my sub Oct 17 and might be back for i19.

I bought the expansion several weeks ago. I've been locked out of my account for over two weeks. Supposedly for either bad behavior (have no idea on that) or from an outside attack (hacked account). I have emailed them twice, asking about the details of the block and how to rectify it. Two weeks have gone by, wasting paid game time, with no reply, explanation or resolution. I can't even log into my NCSoft master account as it has been blocked as well. I have lost all respect for Paragon and NCSoft for such terrible business practices. No warning on the ban, no effort to contact me or even determine if I am at fault. Even if they do re-instate my account and refund me the lost game time, I have serious doubts that I will have any inclination to do any further business with these people.

GR was a huge let down - this game still plays soooo slow and even with the minor graphic update - it looks totally dated. Champions on the other hand is much more action paced and looks like a modern game - and I eagerly await DCUO - I just hope Sony doensn't F it up...

That is a good move - level 14 is certainly far enough to at least get some idea of Praetoria and and at least a taste of most archetypes and powersets.

Personally I think GR is a very nice addition, both Praetorian content (although I agree some maps are a bit sterile) and the alignment switching systems.

No longer being forced to play certain content with certain archetypes I find it good fun to play and in general the new mission content has good quality from a story perspective in general. Although the alignment missions seem in general to have less of interesting stories if hero alignment is choosen.

Yeah the expansion has a bit more to it but nothing too huge or different. It supposedly has an end game system which will start in i19. We were promised this in GR but it got pushed back. I think the old version of the end game was just plain stupid; earn merits doing the same old to unlock/obtain more powers for your toon. No thanks. I don't know if you need a fully functioning brain to work there but maybe one day the dev team will understand we have a TON of the same type of 'content' which is just the same stuff dumped on us over and over. Enough already. Let's get something fresh and new in there. New zones are not the answer - we have too many as it is now!

Anyone trying to suggest CHAMPIONS ONLINE is better in anyway whatsoever is either a Craptic stooge or a sucker who got a liftetime sub and is trying to fool themselves. Give it a rest. That game is pretty much a failure and has a very low player pop. I went back for the free week in early Sept and I couldn't believe how low the numbers were. Just sad. The game still sucks too.

I am hoping DCUO can help out. CoH has promise and might turn the corner but we'll see. All I know is they no longer get regular cash from me. I used to try and support them regardless in hopes they would make the game fun again. I should've known better. :)

The alignment system is a boring grind of random missions and is so systematic that there's no immersion whatsoever. There are pips to count your Tip missions (random one-off missions) because you're limited to 5 per day. It takes 10 missions to build towards your alignment, indicated by a progress bar. After the progress bar fills, the next Tip drop is automatically the 'change alignment' mission. Complete that and you're half-way to switching sides. Repeat from the top.

I got the expansion for 4 new powersets and new zones to start the characters in, but so far, my rating is a solid 'meh'. Incarnates might change that, but it seems Incarnates were pulled for not bringing much to the game.
