You are aware that it would be rare for a fan of vampire mythos to enjoy Twilight, right? And that Twilight was basically a cheap paperback romance novel with fangs?

Now go. Read "Dracula."

...and now you pull the cliche internet tough-guy card.

Just when your act couldn't get any more stale and tired, you pull out all the stops.

Bravo.

IF IT REALLY DOES "focus on player politics and social interaction," as opposed to endless combat, I may actually, even all these years after the last time I played a World of Darkness tabletop game, care. Heck, if they can keep that promise, it will even fix what's wrong with virtually every Vampire LARP I've ever bothered to show for one meeting of, where (in blatant contradiction of the lore) everybody rushes to combat. (In particular, if it's going to be at all honest to the lore, your goal as a newbie 13th-generation vampire in any imaginable combat scenario should be escape, not victory: there is almost nothing in this world that can't kill a newly reborn high-gen vampire.)

I can't begin to imagine how you make a game out of that, though. So I'm not even vaguely hopeful. I'm fully prepared for you to have to kill x members of a rival vampire clan and come back to your mentor for a mission reward, then kill y werewolves and come back to your mentor for a mission reward, etc. It's the kind of gaming that the MMO industry knows how to do. It's also (a) boring to me and (b) completely contrary to the lore of the World of Darkness, where the right answer to almost every problem, if run properly, is to try to talk your way out of it, or to sneak away from it, or to recruit such an overwhelming force that the other side is afraid to fight you and surrenders.

I wish them all the luck in the world. I would bet a three-figure sum of money that they're going to fail.

I'm actually surprised they are going with VtM, which will have been outdated for quite a while when WoDO actually launches. Plus it is going to be a video game adaption, which will have to alter the play mechanics anyway.

I'm interested, but I think the reality here is (much like PvP) when players go into WoDO thinking they'll be masters of politics, they'll quickly find out that there are people who play that game better than they do. So I think a lot of WoDO players will play it as is seen in EvE - they may talk about 0 sec space, but they spend most of their time in PvE situations in 1.0 space.

While I like the World of Darkness genre, I don't care for the total player corruption play-style of EVE Online, which I imagine will be carried over to this MMO as well. But, it will fit that niche of players that prefer it - and the World of Darkness does at least lend itself to that style of game better than many others would.

Good luck CCP! I hope you do well! But, alas, I doubt that I shall be joining you.

oooooooh... nice =)

time to dig out my old giovanni, look him over so i know how to create my virtual giovanni :D

and do yourself a favor: don't go/read into this expecting angsty Twilight teeny love "drama" crap... The Masquerade is a pretty nasty world... especially with all the gangrels and Tzimisces all over the place making spinal weaponry. if you ponder who's cuter, jacob or edward while rubbing lotions into your angsty skin - walk away now...

I never understood why people are so fascinated about vampires. I tend to be one of those folks who like vampires that smell like the grave, have no redeeming hope and should be staked or turned to dust. So this game, although appeals to a lot of gamers, has little interest for me.

I will consider it if Hunters (I only know general WoD stuff because I've only gleaned their stuff and never played) are viable and just as dangerous as vampires and I get to kill them as effectively as monsters kill regular people.

But if your character is a vampire and future expansions only allow you to roll up various other monsters, eh...it doesn't appeal to me at all.

I'm pretty sure that, in addition to all the machevalian-type vampires in the game, there are a few viscous, animalist, evil killer groups as well. I'm sure at least *some* of the players will be monsters worthy of the name.

That being said, I would also love to see hunters in the game. Stalking dangerous monsters through the streets.. Killing every Edward and Bella I see spawned from hell.. there's a scenario I don't think I'll EVER get sick of.

If I get the option to play a Tzmisce, I'd be happy to create something unique out of every Jaacob and Eddward... :)

Yay! I was hoping for this, but honestly thought it wouldn't actually happen.

Is it too much to hope for playable Sabbat on top of this? I want bone spikes...

Really, really looking forward to this one. I'll be disappointed in it, no matter how it turns out, but it still has the potential to be awesome. I'm not too worried about it playing exactly like EVE....remember, CCP made EVE way before merging with White Wolf.

Finally I can get my revenge! All those years in CoH where V:TM LARPers tried to ignore the superhero setting, I can finally go into WoD and RP as a Golden Age Superhero in their setting! =D

I'm kidding, I'm actually excited for this game. Especially if they really are going to focus on Player Politics as a key feature of the game. I really hope they come up with a really good system for the Masquerade and steep penalties for getting caught breaking the Masquerade. Done right, this game could be incredible.

Holy crap. An old World of Darkness-based MMO? That is awesome. Freaking awesome. I have nothing particularly against Requiem or the newer setting. But I grew up playing stuff from the old World of Darkness. Still have my old Mage and Wraith game books laying around my apartment. I'll be keenly interested as to see how this MMO turns out.

Three cheers for choosing the "old" World of Darkness, not the "new" one ... there's a heck of a lot of story waiting to be explored in this :-)

Must say, I'm intrigued.

I guess I should add that I ultimately quit Eve online when I found out that Alliance names are not really moderated, so that any gibberish will be accepted as an alliance name. I think it is a retarded praxis of CCP in allowing that.
