En Masse Entertainment has taken the wraps off a lengthy video edit of their PAX Prime 2010 TERA press demonstration. If you missed the game convention, as well as our coverage of the cultist refuge, you can sample scenes from the demo that have been cut together and made available on YouTube. The video, featuring a look at several boss fights as well as the interior and exterior of the cultist's refuge, runs right at six minutes in length and is underscored by some cheeky narration courtesy of producers Sam Kim and Stefan Ramirez.
"TERA is deep, it doesn't just have a story, it is a story. Progression isn't just about levels, items, or skills but about moving the story forward and finding out more about the world and your role in it as a player," Kim notes.
In addition to the usual footage of TERA's combat, there are also some interesting shots of the environments and what looks to be harvesting mechanics in the form of butterfly gathering.

This was going to be my MMO... Then Trion decided to flood us with Rift news!
And looking at TERA now makes me kinda glad... Fanboyism blinds.

Butterfly gathering? Woot!

Would have liked to see some of the class abilites at work at these fights. Gamers want good GAMEPLAY - not movies or nice looking screenshots.

So I guess that was just 'shopped animation and CG cutscenes looping over and over again? They've gone into specifics already about what each class can do and how they do it.
Besides that, class mechanics in almost every video game are really boring at the end of the day: you'll be seeing them again and again to the point that they hardly seem noteworthy. What I'm liking is the variety in boss models and strategies thus far, though I'm sure Tera will have its share of palette swaps and rehashes if the game sees any level of success.

Personally, this looks awesome. Combat that requires more than just standing in one spot most of the time spamming rotations is a plus in my book. But I'm sure there are plenty of comments to come about the butterfly gathering (not sure myself what this would lead to) and how it is the sole reason the game will fail and/or they won't play.

I may HAVE to play a game that has giant warriors swinging nets at butterflies.

Which is cool and all, since it already reminds me of Monster Hunter as is. But with adorable raccoon people and far more T & A than necessary. They'll probably be used for similarly bizarre item creation scenarios, though I wouldn't count out some Animal Crossing-esque collection side quest, either.

Oh, that's right. Now I remember why I don't care about Final Fantasy XIV.

Seconded man. Game is gonna be bad ass. People who say they care more about gameplay than movies... It's a GAMEPLAY MOVIE. It tells you all kinds of things about gameplay if you just use your eyes. You have to aim your attacks, and there are combo skills - there's more skill required than in other MMOs by a country mile. If you really care about gameplay and want an MMO that isn't totally ezmode as 95% of them currently are, TERA is a strong choice.

Pretty interested in this, but I already play Aion and I'll be playing FFXIV soon. I think XIV can replace Aion, but ohhh the choices.
Good time to be an MMO gamer though.

To what? That I am interested in this, or that it's a good time to be an MMO gamer? If between Cataclysm, FFXIV, Tera, Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, or Star Wars there is nothing that tickles your fancy coming, I think you may be in the wrong genre of games.
Certainly, not all of those interest me, but I think there's something for everyone right now. Thus, good time to be an MMO gamer.

I think they strongly disagree with FFXIV. As you mentioned, there are just too many options for someone to limit themselves with -that-.
