CCP has a new expansion coming for EVE Online players, and it should be here before you know it.
While there is not an official launch date for EVE Online: Incursion, it's slated for Winter 2010 and will bring many improvements to the game. Improved character creation, new ships, new loot and rewards, and new storylines are just some of what players will find in the expansion, and CCP is looking forward to its reception.
The Incursion site is live now and contains the full press release with all the current news. We'll keep our eyes open here at Massively for any details as they're available!

The Incursion link doesn't go anywhere, just loops back to the Massively article that initiated it.

I liked the other EVE expansions that had names that weren't words but kind of were but weren't but may or may not be based on a mythical/religious/specialist book and sounded like a useable word but weren't.
I never actually knew Apocrypha was in the bible either :/

Wat?
Castor - The name of a star
Empyrean Age - Empyrean means of heaven/the heavens, so The Age of Heaven
Apocrypha - Set of Old Testament books that you rarely see
Tyrannis - Part of the Latin phrase "sic semper tyrannis"
The rest of the expansion names are all obvious words. Exodus and Revelations and so on.

For me - the nicest surprise in the announcement is they plan on implementing some of the player run CSM's suggestions. I hope this will be continuing trend for future expansions. Bravo CCP!

Can't say I care so much about the new mothership or fighters, but the prospect of a revamped NPC AI and loot possibilities is good news. New missions and visuals is a plus as well.

Still no word on Incarna?

The improved character creation system is supposedly one of the first steps towards introducing Incarna. Supposedly.
If Incarna is the next expansion after this (which I doubt), it will probably come out 2nd quarter next year. If not, we're probably going to see it next winter, if at all.

Incarna/Ambulation/WIS is coming in winter next year....
.... just as it did for the last 5 or so years.

From the press release:
"improvements to NPCs and their AI"
Does this mean missions will be more interesting with unpredictable/challenging AI?

My guess is that Incursion is INCARNA. I mean the new AI for NPC will be nice but lets see what they did ...but i was hoping for some improvements to the UI and the learning but meh. I guess that wont happen for a LOONG time.

So when is their "walking in stations" expansion coming? They've been talking about that forever...

They're building a real space station for that. That's why it's taking so long.

Incarna won't be next expansion. Hopefully, it will be a year from now. Given how many Dev's are now working on Incarna, I'd say it's finally a safe bet that it's gonna happen in our lifetimes. But for now, the addition of more dynamic and interesting PvE is very, very welcome news. Hopefully, it will live up to promises.

Is this the smallest expansion that's been released in terms of actual content? There doesn't seem to be very much "meat" here...

You're right about that, and EVE players are sighing a collective sigh of relief at that. EVE has a history of bringing in massive new content/systems and then letting them languish in a barely playable or useful state. Fortunately this is an instance of them going back and polishing a system that they brought in. In this case the main system getting polished is planetary interaction. Character creation updates are icing on the cake.
