I think EQ2X has really breathed a lot of life in to EQ2 as whole and I even copied a few characters over to the Extended server. i think it will take a awhile but they will balance out the whole F2P thing as time goes by, but I think it is a lot of fun now with a lot of other people around.

Personally I've found the EQ2X service a grating disappointment from a new/returning user's point of view. There's too many restrictions on what should be basic content, races, jobs, alignments, basic needed features.

As far as I can see, this is a very narrow demo, and once you finally pay for one of the subscriptions, or pay the high premium for the unlocks, you then have to start over with the unlocked races/jobs/features which means there's no point playing for free for very long anyway. So again, we come back to the extended demo idea.

It just seems like another half-hearted attempt by Sony to double-dip their feet in the subscription+unlocks model.

we have to always remember that in every server we have people who don't play during the usual time of every one else. Trying to sit and say "well then SOCIALIZE you bastid!" only proves that some people chose their server in a different fashion.

I'm not happy with how EQ2X's limited selection of people and things, as i'm a lifer for a Necromancer, but i guess if it stops massive necro botting i see where it fits.

Agreed. I returned to the game after 5+ years (played from release to 7 months after release). Am having a blast in EQ2x. Lots of players around - easy to find groups ect.

The biggest flaw in EQ2X's model is the limited race/classes you can choose from as a free player. This game has more races and classes than almost any other game, but you can't try 90% of them.

See, people don't want to pay for something they might not enjoy. And they might not enjoy any of the 4 or 5 free classes provided to them. So, not only are some players going to bow out of the game when the class they play isn't fun for them, but they are also less likely to fork over money blindly to get access to classes they also might not enjoy.

And the only reason /auction channel worked in EQ is because it was the only option. Yeah it was nice when it was working and people used that method but fact of the matter is people are going to use the NPC for 95% of the trading because of all the advantages it offers.

For some reason, I can't click on or mouseover any link in this article past "borrowing the dungeon finder mechanic from World of Warcraft." I had to crack open the page source to get to the URL for the post about EQNext.

Im glad you got away from giving your opinion on how much you dislike the free to play crowd. And it needs to stay that way if you want anyone else to check out this game now that there is a bigger fish in the free to play waters.

My advice to the EQII community: Welcome what you get cause you dont know how long they are gonna be around.

I'm not sure what's so controversial about WoW's Dungeon Finder. I've used WoW's Dungeon Finder and it's blow-away-bad@ss in terms of usefulness in getting a nearly instant random PUG when you're on the go with little time to spare waiting on a PUG invite.
