The beta test for Final Fantasy XIV has come to a conclusion as of Sunday, leaving fans of the game with two days to fill until the collector's edition goes live. Fortunately, Square-Enix has filled that gap by giving players plenty of homework before the launch. Well, not precisely, but there are preparations to be made before the game goes live, as outlined in an official dispatch from the company.
Those planning on picking the game up on Wednesday are advised to create their Square-Enix Account prior to the service launch, as well as taking care of linking any Final Fantasy XI accounts and registering for bonuses. Beta testers are also advised to remove the beta client from their computer prior to installation, and check the official player site for any further updates. The player site is currently only accessible to participants in the beta test, but will be unlocked in full on Tuesday for all Final Fantasy XIV players to get ready for launch.

I'm dreading uninstalling Beta. Why? Because I'm envisioning the horror of patching the weeks/months(?) old DVD Gold client to whatever the current build is. I really hope it's a small patch, or Square's download speeds are high!

...wonderful gameplay? FFxiv? This does not compute.

I have zero intention of playing this game at release. I am so glad I had the chance to game test before launch, best $50-80 ever saved. In the past I probably would have subscribed much like I did with Aion and Champions Online, but I have learned to be able to see warning signs if a game will turn out to be a disaster. FFXIV has failure written all over it. I hope SE can get the game in good shape someday down the line, because I thin kit has potential, but is nowhere near ready for launch.

I completely agree with you Dan. The ironic part is that FF11 did fairly poorly in my opinion due to the director at the helm of FF11. Now sadly, the FF11 director has moved to FF14 and in the process FF11 has really started to flourish/improve like with add-ons etc over the last 6 months or so.
The fact he's leading FF14 is one of the things that make me feel depressed about the game. There's another whole list that literately miles long I could make up/think of.

I still can't figure out why they decided to do an open beta at that sorry state. I, like many others, would probably have at least purchased the game after having played 11 for so long; instead, 99% of those that tried it has come back and we're having fun w/ overpowered atmas in Abyssea with no intention of playing FF14 again (at least, until we hear from actual players that it's gotten improved).
Hope Kawabuta (that's how the JPs call Komoto) wasn't actually confident that the beta was going to turn heads. There's lots of positive opinions now in FF14-centric threads among forums now, but that's because the majority have already given up on it.

Based on the experience SE had with Closed and Open Beta, I expect this launch to be somewhat rocky. I'll go ahead and second what Dan said; I might look at this game in another six months, but right now there are too many basic problems for me to be willing to throw down 70+ for the CE.

Haters gonna hate.
That being said, I recieved my CE 2 days ago, and ripped an .ISO and I am currently the only person seeding with 1100 Leechers.
My client is updated with little over 12 hours to go until head-start launch and the only patches I have gotten is about 400 MB worth.
I didn't play the Beta for the exact reason that everyone who did seemed to draw wild and deluded conclusions that the game is going to suck and that Launch is going to be terrible, yet I am going to 'lol' ever so hard if the launch is one of the smoothest I have played yet.
Coming from AoC launch, WAR launch, Aion launch etc etc... there is very little that will surprise in the sense of 'terribad launches.'

I think they just hate cause they aren't patient enough to figure out the game. And please non of this lag bs defense. my machine is 3 y/o and it ran the game like silk. patcher problems read the forums and install manually. "WAHH SE isn't holding my hand telling me what to do step by step in game." read some forums or better yet explore and use your brain. haters gonna hate, thinkers gonna play.

Fanboys gonna ... well be blind, that's for sure.
The game is obviously not designed for PC in mind, it is rushed for release on the PC with lots of issues still not been fixed.
At top of this, you have developers that are known for not communicating with the its own community for feedback.
Here we can add also :
Hardware mouse - really ? Its 2010.
Very clunky combat - If you fight with one enemy its somehow barable, then when fighting two or more enemies its nightmare.
World that seem to be copy pasted blantlantly without even an attempt to hide this.
I really wonder what kind of people will close their eyes for all of this. It is more than obvious that the game is not designed for PC and it is rushed, just to collect some profit from it.

Gotta love the "haters gonna hate" comment being thrown around by people who turn a blind eye to the game's faults, no matter how well they're put across.
Enjoy your neutered version, it's not my money. This game is not being developed with the PC in mind and the PC players are being used as guinea pigs. But hey, if that's what gets you off, more power to you.

I am definitely not a fan boy, but I have been through enough " UMG RAGE LAUNCH ISIN'T PERFECT!!!!!111" threads and blah blah to let it get to me...
Im not doubting its gonna be rocky, but being a "pioneer" as such in a new game is too much fun...

you were one of those kids who swore battletoads was cheating weren't you. I make no excuses for SE and have called them on BS before. I'm just tired of everyone crying over their own laziness or ineptitude and then blaming it on someone else. take a stand and let the world know your not too much a coward to say you don't know what your doing.

I do not believe that Beta is showing a final product, Seems like people that think that betas are some kind of trials this day... this is not the case! You did not play the final game and may have encounter a lot of placeholders. SE did not bother to patch the beta client with the final changes like well they not have too!
Please give this product a change on release day there was no mmo that got release without tons of bugs and so on.... AoC was a unplayable mess on release day!

It's also a big SE fault for not recognizing or not caring that majority of people treat OB as demo. It had solid story, very interesting mechanics, nice graphic and music. It failed for me on UI, user unfriendliness and bad support. Oh well apparently seems that SE just don't care about new players. Not my loss...

If the HNM's in this game are like FF11, then prepare for more of the same fail you had before.
Open world bosses only encourage the type of in-game cheating and e-gangster bullcrap that turns people away.
Not that SE has figured that out yet.

My only hope is that some form of digital distribution for this becomes available, I live in Japan and I don't really want to play with a Japanese client (I mean, I can read Japanese, but it's slower than English still for me). I was hoping it'd have a Steam release or some other digital method I'd be able to acquire the game.
Anyone have any suggestions?

The client detects language setting on install so if you're PC is in English then the client will install english.
I know someone who lives in Japan getting the game and could ask him to check for you too
