can someone tell me what the end game in FE is like? Is there large scale group pvp over resources/keeps or anything like that?

I got discouraged from PvP not because of the FE game mechanics, but because of the strong correlation between FE forum PvP threads and knuckleheaded posturing that usually (90% of the time, I'd unscientifically estimate) breaks down into a series of open insults and pissing competitions.

Interesting that there are so many threads on the FE forums about 'fixing PvP' to attract more people. How about starting with 'fixing PvPers'.

I'm not saying FE is unique in this regard, as I know it's not. The community is, on the whole, fantastic, but there's something about PvP threads that just seems to bring out the latent asshole in people. Why would I want to interact with them in the game if I wouldn't interact with them in forums?

Not to generalise, but PvPers do tend to be the absolute worst in an MMO community. Take AoC as an example; the PvPers whine and complain all the time, despite dev communication, and are generally just asshats.

Interesting - I made a light-hearted comment on a thread at the FE forums about something as minor as punctuation and it got deleted.

I think there's some seriously heavy-handed moderation going on at the FE forums at the moment. I have noticed this over the past couple of weeks. Definitely not attractive.

Hey Ed - any comments on your view of censorship of the FE forums? To be honest it's getting a bit uncomfortable to me.

They can be heavy-handed on the FE forums, especially when it comes to staying on-topic. If something is irrelevant, and it gets reported (by anyone) it will be deleted. I think the moderators like to keep the conversation flowing and free of personal attacks and irrelevancies. I've had my posts deleted and been banned temporarily for saying what was on my mind there. But, when I look back at why they deleted my posts and even banned me, I can't really fault them for it. I just wish they were a little more consistent with what flies and what doesn't.

I guess the inconsistency is my main issue. Perhaps I'm just over-sensitive to it at the moment (being the delicate wee flower that I am) but it does seem to me that the PvP-related threads, however well-meaning they begin, end up full of ad hominem attacks, yet many of them are allowed to remain. Perhaps that style of posting is seen as the bread and butter of PvP conversation so it's cut some slack. Odd.

...which nicely segues our slightly off topic posts (sorry!) back into the reason I won't PvP ;)

FE is a great PvE game, with lots of atmosphere and beautiful blend of combat and crafting.

Because of this, the game really has very few PvPers. Every day I'm in there I hear whines from people who can't find enough for blood sports, or people who'll offer almost anything to lure you until a PvP area.

Personally, I'm very, very glad that a non-fantasy PvE game is around. My only gripe is how difficult it is to get "honest" teams for instance "dungeons." Most teams seem to include at least one high-level "ringer" who makes the whole thing a cake walk. What's the point of sleep-walking through a dungeon while some high level players magically makes all the enemies disappear?

The emphasis on PvP in FE is one of the reasons I left the game and I *will not* fight other players. That makes me one of your conscientious objectors; I don't know what it is about PvP, but I simply can't enjoy fighting another player (well, more accurately; manipulate my online avatar to fight the online avatar of another person).

I had hoped that FE would be my non-fantasy MMO of choice, but it wasn't to be.

"Riflemen should stick to assault rifles and shotguns up close and only ever use sniper rifles in a pure support role. Snipers rifles are only good in group-support roles in PvP (assault rifle or shotgun). - Misbee Haven

That sounds like a challenge.

Can't wait to fraps me nuking Misbee Down.

That said, he's a pansy and never runs around with his PvP flag on and sticks to CQC bloodsports.

As for the article, the tips are great, except some of the unbased opinions of the PvPers interviewed.
