Tweet It's an announcement that no MMO fan likes to see, but it hits even harder when it comes from a game with such potential.
APB Community Officer Ben Bateman broke the news just a short while ago: "APB has been a fantastic journey, but unfortunately that journey has come to a premature end. Today we are sad to announce that despite everyone's best efforts to keep the service running; APB is coming to a close."
The announcement is followed by statements from many members of the APB team, and while there is not a specific shutdown time at the moment, Ben says that the servers are currently up and invites everyone to come say goodbye.
We at Massively wish everyone at Realtime Worlds and APB the best of luck in the future.
[Thanks Brian for the tip!]
[Update: We've learned that the the game is expected to be taken offline within the next 24 hours. We'll keep you posted as the story develops!]

Looks like they are still selling it copies of the game though, hate to be one of the last minute suckers who buys this now. I loved the game when it launched, but the shine quickly wore off. This is pathetic.

such a shame.. the game had a lot of potential and a customization engine above and beyond so many other titles.

is this the shortest one yet, though? I remember Fury was a lot shorter.

This is what will happen 99.9% of time an Online FPS tries to pass it's self off as a MMO. Had a lot of potential, sorry to see it close down so fast.

I guess thats how you deal with the epidemic of hackers infesting the game.
It's a shame. I really enjoyed playing till all that was left of the population was cheaters and scrubs.
And they were just about to release the Pure Skill rule set to compensate for god like weapon upgrades.

If only they went B2P from the beginning, and actually listened to beta feedback...

I don't know why they didn't go a different route. The actual fighting was a blast. The changes they should have made :
Make 1 huge persistent world. Forget instanced cities. They could have combined them all
Put in Guild Housing that could be raided
Put in "hotspots" that could have been fought over that gave bonuses.
The game had such huge potential, but it was never a P2P game. It should have been F2P at best and at worst, go the traditional FPS route and go with a 1 time buy model.
