Can not wait for this game. The Soul System is pretty revolutionary in the industry and the rest of the game look phenomenal too! If anyone is interested in PAX information or other news from Rift:

Not really revolutionary... I mean, at first glance, it's almost identical to "talents". But it's definitely a step forward into new territory.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed in the race selection for this game. Everything is pretty much "humanoid" with no real flair or anything. There's one human race on the Guardians and a slightly different human race on the Defiant side which look slightly different, although you can probably make them look the same with some skin colour customization. Same with the elves, there is an elf race on both sides. But the game does have dwarves, and they are among the coolest looking MMO dwarves I've ever seen, and I almost always play a dwarf anyway so I'll probably make all of my characters dwarves. Maybe one Bahmi too cause they look cool.

Despite the lack of uniqueness in the races, one thing this game does have is a lot of lore and a great world which will be good for anyone who likes to roleplay.

I'll second the overabundance of Tolkein races - five of six currently announced.

I'm fine with this. In the end, its sort of 4 races- two types of humans, two types of elves, Bahmi, and Dwarves. High fantasy like this ALWAYS annoyed me a lot, but the way Rift is presenting it just gets me more excited for the game.

@Malcolm I'm the exact opposite, I love high fantasy... And I've been becoming a total Rift fanboy.

Okay, someone, somewhere, really dropped the marketing ball.

I went to this site, and was wondering 'what's this? didn't this game used to have a better website?' then I started looking through massively's old news. Yup, here it is, 'Tera is getting a new website'... wait, this is the new website? What was wrong with the old one? Too many scantily clad women? I don't get it. How's that a bad thing?

And then I realized what my mistake was.

Tera is not the same game as Telara.

Duh!

Except this is not a Homer Simpson Duh. It's a marketing Duh. Someone, somewhere, didn't Duh enough when naming their game.

One game is called TERA, the other is called Rift: Planes of Telara. I really don't see the problem there except that you have arbitrarily decided to shorten it to Telara when everyone else is shortening it to Rift.

*shrug*

Perhaps it's just my own personal artistic preference here but...I'm just not feeling the art style. I dunno if theres better screen shots there...but umm...why are all the women super models and all the men so...err...pudgy?

Never mind I just saw the second screen shot...but I have to admit when I saw the initial art for this game it struck me as odd. o_O

Well what do you think now? I have my issues (things like dwarf hands, which I hope to god they fix up), but overall it looks wonderful from the gameplay I've seen, and hope to see more HD video of sometime...

Or just get into closed beta. That would be nice.

That is not my problem as a consumer.

It is a problem of marketing: the product needs to be differentiated to avoid exactly this sort of confusion. Yes, the games are different.

But if the names are similar, you'll have confused consumers buying the wrong product. It will do bad things to both games.

People will buy one and wonder where one or the other feature is.

Worse yet, news from both games end up piling on top of each other, leading to the expectation of a game that doesn't exist.

This is bad, bad, bad.

You won't confuse SWTOR with Guild Wars 2. That's good positioning and both properties have name recognition.

Telara, Tera... putting them together like that I can't even say which one is the 'Rifts' and which one is just the T-name. Also, there was a tabletop roleplaying game called Rifts...

Absolutely none of my mmo playing friends have ever made the mistake of this. It doesn't take much to determine that Telara /= TERA, imo.

Must...resist...moving from Eth to Kelari...

Same issue with the humans and blood elves in WoW, except now they can be on the same faction pretty much, and they actually sound interesting (I tried, so hard, to be interested in the sin'dorai).

I love elves, but for goodness sakes, would people stop designing them with ears that stick out away from their heads like inbred hillbillies? What is so wrong with tapering them close to the head, I mean, elves are suppose to be attractive, not comical.

The High Elves of Rift are more like that. Not SO close to the head, but still not as totally pointed out like the Kelari.
