I've been waiting for a horror MMO to finally reach the light of day. I pray that it's not a hardcore economic simulation like Eve.

I see your point about being worried about it being focused on economics, but I do hope it ends up being another sandbox rather than themepark game. WoD MMO shouldn't be about grinding to the next level or loot set, but about players making their own story as in EVE.

Sandbox is fine, economic simulation is not. I want adventuring to be the focus. I don't want the majority of loot to be crafting materials and I don't want to be held hostage by crafters in order to advance my character or advance in the content. Eve, Horizons, early Dark Age of Camelot, early Anarchy Online, Project Entropia, early Ultima Online are examples of games that put far too much focus on crafting to the detriment of creating more rewarding adventure content. Games like DAoC and AO that started off with the major focus on crafting changed their tune for a reason and the game's became more popular as a result and while Eve has become more popular since it started, it is still very much a niche game.

I don't want the first Horror MMO in the genre to be a niche game.

I'm interested in seeing what CCP can pull off with this - because any advancement made for this MMO will benefit Eve.

WoD is a setting that is extremely reliant on thick and deep atmosphere and immersion. Anyone who has been in the mmo scene for more than 15 minutes knows that even the best developed mmo will fall prey to it's community in this regard (and no, "role playing" servers don't help).

I like CCP and I enjoy their work; I don't share the Eve-hater worries that WoD might be another "2 years of game play to actually do anything" and the like. However I just don't see this setting actually working. I wish it could, truly, but realistically? I won't get my hopes up.

I will be in attendance for the Grand Masquerade's various Live Action Roleplaying sessions; I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

Mr. DeFreest is a bit of a boozehound, so I can only expect that the after-party will be the best part!

It will be months of grinding rep because you need the standings to get that story arc from the prince.

Ati, *a bit* of a booze hound? He must have slowed down then. When we ran in the same social circles in the PNW, I don't think I ever saw him sober.

While I hope the game succeeds, I have no real faith that it will. I used to be pretty involved in the Camarilla fan club and ended up leaving because of the attitude that most of the players would take if you weren't part of their clique. I fully expect that it will be those people that end up beingt he core group of players, and that will just end up killing the game for everyone.

CCP is one of those companies that start with a painted canvas and only increase in its dept and understanding. The reason EVE works as it does, is because gamers have made it that way. They had to take a concept that was unique and generally untried into something that is fun and worth playing to see where it goes.

I'm more afraid of gamers to treat the WoD world like WoW. There is a reason games are only as good as the players you know.

And for some odd reason, you twinks believe that to do anything means many months of gaming? isn't that was you already do? New content in all MMO's is based on end game content, without friends or a guild it takes 2 years to reach that end. Which actually turns into more of a pain than fun to reach a goal of completed character.

All EVE-haters have on their side is the instant gratification their mainstay modern MMOG's have given them. In many of the original MMOG's progression was based on knowing the right time and place to be, on top of choosing your path correctly. Heck, thanks to some progressive programming, you don't have to type out "Hail Gwenhwavar" to talk with an NPC, or go manually across the land or sea to reach a destination in DAYS instead of either hours or seconds.

Just because CCP has a flagship game that has one engine and gaming model. Who says they can't change? Look at the golden cow Blizzard, They did RTS long before they did WoW, with that they changed their gaming dynamic into something completely different.

Chickens counting eggs.

The trick is CCP is horrible at designing PvE content, as in EVE. They will have to overcome that, and with WoD they are not going to be as able to rely on player-driven PvP interactions. They also are going to need to build a world instead of a collection of "rooms" that EVE's space really is.

Hoping you guys will bring us info as soon as possible.

Have you ever even played a WoD game before? The entire world is PvP. In the case of vampires, characters spend months/years planning on how to gain more power while screwing over others. Some take political routes, some take more aggressive measures. It's the very nature of the game, a world of DARKNESS, not a world of rainbows and puppies where everyone are friends and holding hands singing songs of glee. It's an all-for-one world masked by temporary alliances to get your agenda done.

By all means, if you can't see this, WoD is definitely not the system for you. Head on back to your BGs because I have a feeling this is going to be similar sandbox type of game like EVE, just in a WoD setting. Which I'm psyched for.

Then its going to fail hard, because in EVE the majority of people weren't screwing each other over. They were doing light PvE and sometimes going out on PvP roams.

PvP kills off roleplaying, it invites serious metagaming, and destroys the very aspects that most people would play WoD for. Hint: its not lolPvP. It's the setting. If you think people are going to flock to EVE with vampires, have fun with your 7k server population.

"The entire world is PvP"

...Have *you* ever played a WoD game? At it's heart it's a cooperative table-top game.

This is the MMO I've been looking forward to the most. With what CCP was able to do with EVE, I have high hopes. I'm just not sure how they are going to pull of making a world as rich as the books describe.

I think this game will have a much better atmosphere compared to The Secret World.

I have huuuuuuge hopes for this game, but the lack of info is annoying.

Better to give too little info and give concrete details than to spew a ton of info out and have to change it later, I guess.
