It's funny. I check this site out everyday, but I haven't played an MMO, beyond a few days, for over 2 years.

This is exactly how I feel. I haven't really played an MMO extensively since 2008. :(

Yep, add me to that list. WoW was the last I played, and I haven't played since early '09 after WotLK. Burned out amazingly fast.

Planning to go back soon though. Shameful, I know, but I'm going back to enjoy the old zones one last time. I really hate that they're revamping them. A lot of memories are held in those zones. Dun Morogh especially. Fuck I wish they'd leave them alone.

I'm currently at over a year. I just couldn't handle the work load in WOW with the constant class imbalance issues: Level up/PVP gear up Rogue, oops they nerfed rogue. Woot! leveled and geared my ret Paladin--darn, the team wants a holy Paladin. Got that geared now--oops, sorry! Now they want a full blown holy priest. OK, got THAT gear--no, no, no, NOW they want a discipline priest... [insert scenario for each additional class].

YEAH... seriously... Got to the point where I looked forward to get to work because I had an excuse not to have to PVP grind.

Then they announced SWTOR and I knew I wanted a break. Plus I was pretty broke (ergo why I paid 12.99/mo for WOW rather than $20/week at the movies) so I did more overtime.

Up uintil the last month or so I haven't missed it. But SWTOR is still easily 6 months away and I gotta admit I'm in MMORPG-PVP withdrawal.

Got it pretty bad.... might just go back to WOW and slum with y cousins on Altar of Storms for awhile.

*in scared, hushed tone* I see GOBLINS.... and they're talkin' to me!

was the reason i quit WoW

to me when a MMO becomes a gear-farm it ceases to be fun

tho with the MMO's on the horizon i see a point where im going to be balancing between multiple MMO's (since they seem to have finally put worthwhile story into them and not just the lore that WoW and BC had never made it to WotlK)

Probably never more than a month or two here and there over the last 12 years, have usually had something on tap, those rats don't kill themselves. Keeps the shakes away.......

Breaks between individual games however, those are more common, anywhere from months, to years, to being committed to never returning. I've found that open ended sandbox games are much harder to walk away from though, UO and EVE always had me coming back for more things to do that day/week/month. Theme parks never changed much between expansions, most I would lose would be maybe a guild here and there if the friends moved on in between.

I am pretty much on a 2 year hiatus right now. My third child was born in December of 08 and with 3 kids it was just too much to balance. I am hoping to get back in the swing of things when Rift is released and hopefully get in some kind of casual raiding guild.

I'd say the longest break from all mmos I've had has been about 6 months since I started all those years ago. I usually will try new games though, right now I'm in ffxiv beta and will be buying it.

I actually named one of my beta toons Clark Griswald, hehe.

I don't think I have ever really taken a break from MMOs as a whole (probably a week or two where I didn't touch a computer at all?) but I have taken breaks from specific MMOs for long periods of time, probably around 6months. Of course at which point I was playing other MMOs .... so ........

Hmm... Probably a month or so, back when I was new to MMOs and only played Runescape.

My longest break probably was about 6 months, and I returned during summer when there was absolutely nothing to play. I kind of enjoy the continuity, meta aspect of MMOs, the goals you set yourself, completing them. But even now theres nothing much for me to do in WoW except farm the AH, and even that takes up only 30m of my time each day,and that darkspear questline for the Horde was done in 1 hour.

Maybe nows the time to give that Runes of Magic a shot, Cataclysm is still a loong time away. :p

About 5 months - I was overseas with just 1 case of possessions, and I don't trust internet cafes as secure places to use my gaming accounts.

I'm currently on a break right now. I left LOTRO in May when they announced no new content until the expansion, and then it was announced it was going F2P. Everyone was sick of grinding SG for the stupid drop rate of a symbol, and after my 4th alt was geared out, it was time to move on, for good.

I jumped here and there, and finally got to Allods. Great fun, until the Gipat patch hit, and required you to buy shit just to play. So myself and the 5 friends I brought over all quit. Since then, I've tried going back to Aion, WAR, AoC, and nothing has kept me.

I'm currently just jumping around single player games atm, ala Borderlands, Sims 3, SC2, Mafia II, and Bioshock 2. I dont miss the MMO's for now.

The biggest break i guess was around 4 years from 2001 to 2005, while i was finishing my last year in high school and serving for 3 years in the army. And EA managed to "break" UO while i was gone! *shakes fist*

I do tend to take a month or two away from MMOs when i get really burned out, and currently for the last 7 months playing only 2 basement-developed indie games (WURM and Haven&Hearth)... that will probably end soon with cataclysm and swtor coming out soon.

5 years now.

Nothing has been good since after SOE ruined SWG and Blizzard ruined WoW with battlegrounds.

I didn't play MMOs for over two years, between getting burnt out on FFXI and getting into the LOTRO: SOA closed beta.
