I've found that pets are one of the few universally well-received elements of an MMO. For some players they are something to collect, for others they are an additional cosmetic element to round out a character's appearance, and for others they are a computer controlled companion to make you feel a little less alone when solo questing.

I know Aion is also selling some premium pets (functional and vanity), ones you get from buying the (optional) box for the expansion, and others you buy directly from the store. Is there any word on how the sales for those are doing, or the player reaction to selling the pets for cash?

How is Aion 2.0? Pets are cool and all, and I like Aion's spin on them. But did they:

* Fix the grind?
* Fix the ganking?
* Add end game?

Since ffxiv is months away from playable, I was considering going back to Aion... (never made it past 30).

Short answers:
1. No
2. Yes. Rifting is dead, all PVP only at lvl55
3. Probably not. 1.9 added more content for endgame than 2.0

My brothers friends still play aion and they are the epitomy of twink rifters. They have stated rifting is challenging now, no more lowbie free ride ganking and they have even said they have had to start leveling again, which they hate. (i laughed at that). In keeping with my going back i asked if they would pay, they laughed and said no, its not that bad. (grin)

As far as the other stuff i will see what they say in a few weeks in regards to grinding (one thing i do not tolerate in any MMO is grinding, probably why i dont play one right now, with the exception of the ettens). Onother thing that made me quit aion among others was the ignorant choice of having to make 5 characters and level them to 30 or so to get a set of armor, i had them check and that way dumbass dev quest is still in there, so some of the bigger ignorance still permeates aion. (imo)

I have read a few pages of the aion forums and the biggest cries of anguish are indeed coming from the twink lowbie killers after easy ap. Now they have to level and pvp with the higer level pvpr's, which is as it should be, amazing it took thousands and thousands of lost subs to fix that one huge mechanic.....among many in that game.

Having read up on the grind i see nothing different, they raised exp slightly though not enough and the new instances have huge gaps between accessability levels. (grind related?)

One thing i have seen are alot of thread locks, the forum mods need to pull their heads out and simply delete a single offending post instead of taking the lazy way out and remotely locking a whole particular thread, which is what nearly all forum mods do nowadays.

Sounds like 2.0 made the game friendlier in many ways, the small twink griefing community is leaving or about gone, people are coming back, and for every twink ragequit thread there are several other posts on a new person or old sub asking whats up.

I went back to Aion for a short time out a while back and to answer some of your question, the grind is a lot easier now. I think they increased xp or lowered xp reqs, whatever they did it was noticeably easier to level. The content is marginally interesting if you take the time to get into quest lines, but its never quite felt right to me. I lasted two months on my round 2 of Aion before it got painfully boring again.

my 2 cents hope that helps

I hate to admit it, but those pets are damn cute!

The need to add them to a cash shop means that Aion can't be doing too well, however. This seems to be the general consensus on the forums, at least.

By that logic, then World of Warcraft is also doing poorly?

Logic? It's pretty much a fact: Aion just leaks subscribers ritually on a daily basis. This just emphasies that fact.

Nice try, though.

Nice try? I say he was pretty successful in shredding your logic into tiny little bite-sized pieces.

Status of Aion West:

US: 4 servers remaining coming from 12

EU: 7 servers remaining coming from 18 (mostly due to multiple language options).

...in 8 months time.

Situation after 12 months: even those servers are low now.

The only thing that NCSoft did is making false Xfire accounts to manipulate Xfire playing time with fake IP sessions.

Great: that promisses for GW2 Xfire stats too :))

In the meantime the makers of League of Legends do exactly the same thing: upping playing stats with false IP adresses.

How sad this commerical world has become really.

Players simply want GOOD games not creating false hyped roads to your pocket money ! To pet-pay or not to pet-pay that's the question.
