The day has come! Lord of the Rings Online is relaunching as a free-to-play title here in the States, and legions of new adventurers are setting off to follow in the footsteps of the Fellowship. For those new to the lands of Turbine's take on Middle-earth, we wish you many exciting adventurers and frothy mugs of ale at the end of the day. We can't wait to see your One Shots as you get a chance to travel through this picturesque world. One such example is today's screenshot, which was sent in to us by Bronson. He writes in to explain this image from Lord of the Rings Online: "My rune-keeper was leaving Duillond and crossing the bridge to The Shire, and I thought the scenery was pretty darn... well pretty."
Are you one of the myriad players who are headed into Middle-earth? Why not snap a screenshot of your adventures for us! We love to see what everyone's up to. All you have to do to take part is to email us here at oneshots@massively.com with your image, your name, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit. Easy!

I wanted to play this now that it's free, but there are so many restrictions on F2P customers I don't really see the point in playing unless you are going to spend money on it, which is something I was on the fence about in the first place or else I would already be playing it.
I understand it's a company and they are out to make money, but there is a huge difference between giving paying customers added benefits and holding existing game features hostage unless you cough up some dough.

So far, it's pretty fail.
Servers are having major problems just dealing with the returning players (once free ones hit, oh my)
They can't accurately keep track of your Turbine Points balance. If you earned any yesterday, woops, they're gone. And forget about those loyalty points you promised. But hey, Turbine is having a special sale, 6900 points for only $50. I'm sure they'll get around to those loyalty points sometime.
They also had the brilliant idea to completely overhaul the forum system and website. So if you had problems with the game, you had to load their facebook page. And even now it's sort of up, I can't login (they changed it so you now need to log in with your game id/password - oh no security risk there or anything) but it won't accept it.
They also seemed to have jacked up the prices of a lot of items over the beta. I guess to make up for the removed rep horses...

You're my favourite type of poster. Posting about a game that you were never interested in, and are now doubly uninterested in? That is some profound science right there.

more than commenting on the game I comment on the F2P model switch, thats the news here...
and spare me my life, but I keep thinking that F2P is about as honest as beating then robbing old ladies. Any game heading towards such murky waters instantly becomes an abomination to my eyes.

despite all the problems and complaints everyone is having (which my only complaint so far has been the revamped vault view) I'm really glad this is now F2P as my other friends who wont pay for a third online game a month now are all going to roll some characters and play along with me.
I didn't notice when looking through the store but if they didn't, i hope they put in the ability to use your own points for guest passes like in DDO so that all those loyalty points i have coming my way can be put towards some bonus stuff/quests for my friends.
