It's interesting to see people waxing lyrical about certain classes. My own experience with VG was that the classes were the best portrayed and specced classes in any MMO. My particular favourites were the paladin, bard and ranger, and VG offered the best representation ever of those classes in my view.

Drat it, I can sense an imminent renewal of my Station Access...

I really enjoyed all Vanguard's classes.
Blood Mage and Bard are probably ones of the most special Vanguard classes though.

I don't think I ever reached the max level because I was enjoying the scenery and crafting in the game too much ;)
I wish this game could be re-released on some other graphics engine and given another life (instead of all next year's mmos for example)

You know what, I think I'll give VG another go...

I recommended Vulmane and Necro. Why, well I also reccommend that you stat in the racial starting area and not IoD. Dahknarg has some of the best lore in the game, plus the questline leading from there take you across half of Thestra (E-W) with their natural progression. You will end up at Velksar's exchange around level 15 and if you take the time to explore Vault of Heros you will find some of the best low level content since Crushbone and Unrest.

I wouldn't reccommend Blood Mage or Bard as your first characters. Perhaps the two most confusing classes to learn as a new player.

Disciple all the way as your 1st character in VG, It is the easiest class to play, solo, in group, period.

Start on the Isle of Dawn, the complete Diplomancy and crafting gear are essental to starting out. The final reward from the isle you will be wearing until level 50 at least.

Hardest to start would be shaman, necro and bloodmage. The 1st two remain too weak until higher levels and the bloodmage requires "skill" to play.

I opened up the trial account, played a bit as a druid. Nice game but lag made it unplayable. Did all the port forwarding, and reduced the graphics, still the game only limped along. Don't have this problem with any other mmo.

You need a decent gaming computer to play this game. It was designed for top end computers back when it was made.

According to the developer philosophy, they assumed they could force a massive gaming revolution, much like what happened when everyone had to buy dedicated video cards to play EQ back in 1999. So, they designed the engine with future hardware in mind.

If you have a decent gaming rig, you can run the game on balanced settings, but as of right now you still need a top end computer to run everything on max.

If that's true they're complete dumbasses.

No one said they aren't, it was a bad move on their part, and the main reason why the game flopped. It's really hard to get people to come back to a game after a bad launch.

They have fixed most of the issues however, added in some anti-hitching code, as well as pre-compiled shaders, so the game runs a lot smoother than it used to.

everyone is saying that disciple is the best soloer class in VG, and I will agree with you, entirely. It is the *easy, I win* class of the game, pre-50. However, if you wanna enjoy the game to its fullest, you really want to try a class that shines in group situations, due to teh fact that Vanguard is supposed to be a group oriented game, and the best dungeons, by far, are group dungeons. So while discs are favorable to solo, playing Vanguard to experience the game is probably more feasible to do with a intricate class such as the Blood Mage, Shaman, Cleric, Tanks, Bard and Psi. These classes are phenominal and truly one of the most unique experiences in the game. A Disc, honestly, has its perks, but is not truly the *intent* of the game.

The biggest thing about Vanguard to me is the unique race/class combinations which provide me with many choices to experience the game with. No other MMO really has this depth of diversity that Vanguard does, and makes it yet another diamond in the rough. The world, the lore, the community is by far the best that any MMO has to offer and truly what invites people in and hooks them.

I hope, that after your six weeks of playing, that you'll consider this a place to call home and join the Vanguard community. Not only does Vanguard need teh publicity, but maybe people will finally see this gem as the treasure it is.

We welcome you to Vanguard and I hope you will enjoy your time with us.

I would also suggest launching yourself in your racial starting area; the Isle of Dawn is a generic mash that might as well see the game packaged in a plain white box with a black barcode, while the lore behind the races in their home towns is among the most unique I've come across in MMOs. I will always treasure the sheep that now follows my Lesser Giant around...
