"We took Radiance outside, tied it up to some railroad tracks, and...well...I think you saw the end of this in Red Dead Redemption. Look for this in the future -‐ we will be removing Radiance from LotRO." Thus sayeth Turbine's Jen "Jalessa" Gordy, who confirmed that the controversial gear gating system is headed for a messy death.
In the same WarCry developer chat, the team fielded a number of questions about where LotRO is headed after this week's mega-update. Some of the features in the works for Tolkien's digital offspring include a new raid, class changes for monster play, a barter item wallet, PvMP skirmishes, Isengard, additional minigames and -- yes -- vanity pets for all. The devs also admitted to slipping in a few pop culture mentions into the game, such as Firefly and Futurama references.
And will there ever be any other hobbies than fishing in LotRO? Kate Paiz mused: "All of us devs really want to make golf next, but it's a tricky undertaking, so we don't have a timeline yet, but feel free to start practicing your backswings!"

And so begins the whoring of gameplay destruction down to the lowest common denominator so Timmy with $100 can feel like a hero.
F2P Micro-transactions ruining another game, hurrah

Isn't the whole point of these games to role play a hero? Aren't we all doing that? If you want a challenge them there are plenty outside of playing games.

I disagree, DarkStryke. I think it began at, "The devs also admitted to slipping in a few pop culture mentions into the game, such as Firefly and Futurama references." Pink Nazgûl's with rainbows coming out of their asses is just around the corner. :(

He doesn't really have a point. Radiance was a horrible gameplay mechanic, especially for a game like LotRO.

Oh, please, Keen. Your populist ramblings have gone far enough already, but the fact that money has no effect on the experience of the game is evidently something you chose to overlook.
Rather, you might look at the game, perhaps even TRY the freemium LOTRO first, and think "good, Turbine are getting more money! Now we'll probably get MORE content."

After spending last few days in LOTRO trial... the game is free to play material. It was either that or the devs had to really wake up and fix the glaring issues that was needed to fix to keep it up to acceptable sub standard. I can't say I will be playing LOTRO as free to play - but I will at least look at it again from one of my free trial accounts.... that is.... if those will be given access.

Aren't you the guy who's big, "OMG this game totally sucks because of this" complaint was LotRO's font? I remember you posting about how the UI is "one of the worst out there," along with a bunch of other complaints about the game. I addressed everything you brought up, including pointing out the many, many different ways that the interface can be customized. NONE of that mattered to you, though, because LotRO's font isn't fantasy enough for you.
I'm sorry, but from that thread and other posts I've seen by you it seems like you just really want to bash the game. Now here you are calling it a "sub-standard" game, without backing your comment up with a single fact or even reason.
Good job.
Why are you even bothering to read threads about such a "sub-standard" game, much less waste your time posting about it?

Aurickle, reread what he wrote: "fix the glaring issues that needed to [be] fix[ed] to keep it up to acceptable sub standard." I read that 'sub' as short form for subscription.

I dont base my opinion on one fact (like the crappy fonts that can't be changed). I base it on many features that are lacking and have not been worked on since the game got released.
The game is a free to play title (free client) cause it is not good enough to charge money for it anymore. That inclueds endless list of issues the Turbine has desided to ignore and instead of fixing them ( like proper dev team would do with the biggest fantasy story ever told) they run out the back door and leave it out to die.

Turbine, please don't go over the top with pop culture references...
Though, I do look forward to seeing Futurama references.

Agreed. Just because WoW does it, doesn't mean you have to too.

It works for WoW Joshua, because it was originally loosely based on Warhammer (least I'm told) but it went on it's own direction, drawing references from many, many different sources to its own delight. There's only once source for LoTRO: Lord of The Rings, as the name of the game implies. So if that source doesn't have humaniod one eyed purpled haired aliens...it shouldn't have it in game or even make reference to it. Just saying...

The pop culture references are very slight.. The firefly one is a lipstick called Saffron's Lipstick or something like that.. Thats too low key to even be noticed by most...
I only wish Bill Tripper would run into a swinging door like Jack used to do.. Now that would be classic...

Exactly like gbhuskey said it Uta, very subtle and almost impossible to notice, not blatant references(my post below was supposed to be a reply).
