The saucer following you along like a lovesick puppy may be cute and all; but Sector Space is still one cold-hearted bitch that needs to be taken to the pound.

Only Cryptic could come up with "the saucer pet". I really never understood their obsession with pets.

This is a screen shot of some of the newer content. I just ran this mission last night and it was awesome! If this is the direction they are going to continue in, this will turn into a great game.

oh come on, seriously now??

...the only thing new is the graphics and art they are adding to missions.

If you take off the 'new' locations and sectors (simply art), you have the same type of missions.... click 'f' on four of these items, and fight the 1-2-3 ships that drop in. While you are at it, go talk to this person, then be prepared to fight the 1-2-3 groups that suddenly beam in for no apparent reason.

Typical MMO mission flavor? Yes. However, it seems STO chooses to use it for EVERY mission.

@skinforums- Do you even play the game? I have some advice for you.....Move out of your parents basement and get a place of your own. Then you'll have some credibility. I enjoy the game. If you don't, then move on and play something else. No need to bash on a forum.

Now run along. You bore me.

yet you take time to insult me personally and reply in such a witty way.

I see how you didn't refute my stance or claim, but simply attacked. I rest my case. You may enjoy the game, but it doesn't refute the fact that they didn't really add a new 'thing', no matter how you want others to believe they did.

Looking at both "nt" and "skinforums" posting history, it's near impossible to find them ever posting anything but pure hate and negativity. These are GAMES we are talking about. If you don't enjoy them, don't play. It's really that simple. I'm not a fanboy of Cryptic, far from it. But I will acknowledge effort and progress when I see it. Apparently, that bothers you. Time to get a life guys.

it's people like you that make people think certain games are good, when they are really just utter crap and that's why people like me have to tell them the other side. considering your average posts, you're probably ok with drm, acta and cavity searches at airports too.

I"m oklay with some for of copy protection. DRM isn't working though. I'll have to read more on ACTA, but a quick glance of it doesn't look all bad. At least the intent is good. If I'm muling cocaine, i deserve more than a dog's nose up my butt. I am in favor of this oh so invasive body scanning though.

Naysayers will nay, mwilliams. Personally, I enjoy the game. I bought it when it first came out and was disappointed... although I set my standards very high, basically comparing it to a game it wasn't. However, with all the new updates and fixes and what have you the devs have been pumping into the game, I gave it another shot and have not been disappointed. Sure, its still 'go over here, beat these guys up, these ships come in and you beat them up', but because I'm now seeing the game for what it is and not what I Wanted it to be, I'm enjoying it.

Its Star Trek, which I love. Its in short increments, and if I want to play with others, its very easy to do so, but I don't have to. Adding the diplomatic missions and having them occur more frequently makes it feel more like Star Trek should. Its a lot less combat-centric than it was, and that, in my mind, makes it much better and closer to how I remember Star Trek. These weekly episodes should help in that as well.

A complaint I have is with the "Advanced" difficulty... its still easy. Haven't died yet in Advanced, its just the battles take 10x longer, and the loot hasn't been noticably different. So, if the battles took the same amount of time, maybe the bad guys had better abilities or their abilities were more effective or something and not just they had a crapload more hp, then I'd play the game entirely on advanced and elite as it'd be more of a challenge. I want to die a few times, try other strategies, etc. Just having it take 10 miutes to kill a group of 4 mobs is not what I call "Advanced". Also, the "fixer" items for injuries in Advanced and Elite drop in Normal mode, where you don't get injuries... that seems off...

And Sector Space needs to be fixed... its basically just a waiting room until you get to your next mission, and its really not as fun as it could be... but from what I've heard, they're working on fixing Sector Space, and with all the updates they've put into the game so far, I believe it.

And also, what is with the highest ranks achievable being rediculously high titles... admirals. Shouldn't there be, by right of status, only a handful of admirals? The highest rank achievable in game should be "Captain". The greats of the series, Kirk, Picard, Janeway, etc. They were all captains. Not Admirals, or Fleet admirals, or vice admirals... captain. it wasn't until after they moved on story-wise in the series that they became more, and they seemed more like desk-job promotions...

As far as nt and skinforums, seriously guys, unless its constructive, go back to playing WoW where immaturity is the standard. Trolls...

It's like I wrote that post myself lol. I have the same observations as you. Left and came back. Sector space bugs me, but they are working on it. Thanks for your post. It just amazes me that people get on here and instead of offering constructive criticism, they just rage. Like you I am now seeing the game for what it is and not what I thought it would be. There are a lot of things still to do and change, but they are on the right path.

Most of the time I cringe when I'm about to post something positive. Seems like if you do you open yourself to the trolls

I just started playing STO a few days ago and have been having a great time. A few things I have observed, however.

-- There seems to be a lot of repetition of a given formula: (i) kill 3 enemy patrols circling a planet, then (ii) beam down to generic planet X and interact with four computers, then (iii) mission accomplished! Based on what I have seen, the critics DO have a point. STO seems a bit bland in places.

-- Away team AI is a bit lackluster, and away team missions (many of them, anyway) are not very interesting or creative. My heroes in Guild Wars were smarter than my STO bridge officers -- and Guild Wars is a significantly older game.

-- I think the quests could be written and presented more clearly. It's often difficult (for me, anyway) to determine where to go or what to do next in a given series.

-- I don't think it's always very clear what certain items and add-ons (for ship and individual armor) really do for you. The stats are, in my opinion, a bit obscure (maybe it's more comprehensible if you're a long-time Trek fan?).

For all that, however, I have very much enjoyed my time in this game and am hopeful it will continue to improve as I level up. People have slammed STO as being basically a single-player game, but that's actually a plus for me because of my work hours.

What has helped me the MOST to enjoy this game was coming into after reading so very many negative reviews. If you come into STO not expecting MMO heaven, but just a fun game, it helps a lot. People who wail on these games generally have unrealistic expectations and, I suspect, probably go through life being disappointed all the time by, well, just about everything -- not just MMOs.

Yeah, Tom, a lot of those points were what turned me off in the first place, too... but if you look at it... how is it different than other MMO's except they give you the different tasks (kill these guys, check 4 computers, kill these guys again, beam up, kill guys in space) rapid fire one after another instead of having to return to a quest hub each time? All-in-all, MMO's up till now have been exactly the same. Kill x guys, collect x things, etc. STO tries to at least throw in a bit of story... otherwise, its pretty much the same setup as the rest, its just done quicker.

And I also agree with the item descriptions (although when the game first launched, it was even more random "+ to sensors... but no idea what skills I have use sensors..." there is off-line stuff and links that describe it to better detail what stuff does, but it is a pain searching for it. However, again, they've shown improvement with this... I have hope they'll make it less confusing...

The AI... well.. yeah... ground combat is another thing I've read they are also working on overhauling as well. The AI is terrible for your BO's... but then again, so is the AI for the mobs, too. :)

Overall, I'm not defending them... the game does need a lot of work. But from what they've shown so far, they seem to listen, and improvements are hopefully on the way. I'd just prefer to call the glass half-full than half-empty. Can it be better? Yes. But is it fun? I think so. And if its fun, thats all that matters... once it stops being fun, thats when you quit and go find something else.

My main reason for trying out STO was to get a taste of what Cryptic has to offer. My kids liked City of Heroes, but I never liked the superhero genre much, so I could not get into that game. STO, however, has some appeal for me.

I have my fingers crossed for Cryptic's next venture, Neverwinter, a CORPG, which seems like a better game structure fit for Cryptic anyway (and will probably be an even better fit, gamewise, for me).

Thus, far, my impression of STO has been pretty favorable. The game has potential, and I feel Cryptic is genuinely trying to improve it. The space combat is something new, for me. I thought I would hate it, but it's been quite fun.

I also like how you can join "public events" (I am not sure what the correct term is), but it's basically like an impromptu raid or group, where your ship and others work together to take on an enemy. There's no "But you don't have leet gear!" or "You're the wrong class/type!" or anything like that; you just jump in and play. I have really appreciated this aspect of STO versus other MMOs I've played.
