What did you see that convinced you of this though? I heard they were only showing level 1-20 content, and not much at that. I'm actually curious. What was disappointing? (aside from the combat being of the usual mmo format, because I actually like that)

I think it was the overall 'been there, done that' feel I just got. It wasn't anything specific...the quality is there in terms of graphics and animation...enough to pay monthly for, and gameplay looks solid if rather standard.

I'll admit that I'm a little burned out on MMOs, and unless there's something special there to get my attention, it just starts slipping on my list. For me:
- GW2 - personal story, dynamic events, incredible graphics and animation, character personality/NPC reaction, no monthly fee means it coexists with any other MMO I play expense-wise
- SWTOR - BioWare storytelling, space combat, personal housing, lightsabers...this overshadows their plain...er 'stylized' graphics and just above average animation
- TERA - great graphics and animation, combat system that actually rewards strategic positioning, downside: gameplay may become grindy after a while, not much character depth; probably worth the purchase and a month or two, then check in a few months later
- DDO and LotRO - free to play, why not?

I just think that all of the above overlaps my MMO needs for several different universes and gameplay styles to the point that Rift gets edged out...there's simply no 'killer feature' that makes me want it more than something else on that list. Your mileage may vary.

Check this out: http://horrifticintentions.wordpress.com/2010/09/04/consolidated-information-from-pax-day-2-saturday/

Massively is behind on info. Tentonhammer likes to update as best they can though I've seen.

"The build everyone has been playing at Pax and Gamescom is a very old build."
-What you played was basically the early-mid alpha game lol, and is not what closed beta testers will have to deal with. It's just 'playable', because that was the point.

"You can open up Rifts to push over to the other factions side! Kilrathi was not able to get any more info on it but it will be great for PvP servers."
-RIFTS are the currently touted major 'dynamic content' focused upon by Trion. This is just the newest use of them that has been revealed. However, I think it was hinted that there are more, even major gameplay elements that may change the whole world/server to be different from others.

I anticipate tomorrow's info eagerly :)

And to readers, look into this game! You might shrug it off like Zen (which is totally fine, as other games can be great too), or see more hidden info that hints that this game is far more than it appears ;)

I think it's worth noting GW2 has strategic positioning influencing battles as well. You could see this in the gamescon videos: dodge rolls, distance and side attacks all contributes to a dynamic feel to this game, iirc at least one ranger skill (spreadshot) had some kind of crosshair.

Why the presentation team didn't put more emphasis on this is beyond me, but then again there's plenty of features to choose from :3

I have one big question:

Can you jump? GW was limited to 2D movement and I don't know how or why they stopped you from jumping!!

I just wish this game wasn't published by NCSoft, even if it's NCSoft West. After my horrible experiences with Lineage II and Aion I'm just full of utter distrust to that company ... and all the account security issues with Guild Wars don't exactly inspire my trust.

In short: I just fear getting burned by this company again.

What bad experiences did you have with those games that would be attributable to the publishers (NCsoft) as opposed to the developers (in the case of GW2, ArenaNet)?

I don't thaink Rubi's shakey-cam recorded it with any audio, Jack. So have some piano music playing in the background, like they did with movies in the 1920's when viewing it again. :)

I'm starting to think the GW2 developers have a telepathic link to my brain. So many features being announced that I've wanted in MMOs for years. You can just tell they're gamers and have wanted these things themselves for years - either that or they've been listening to us.

Making unlocks/achievements account-wide? Not just an altoholics dream but something I've wanted for ages in other MMOs, like CoH especially ( I have a character I want to make that is a Roman Legionary lost in time, but cos the Roman costumes in CoH are unlocked by a L35-50 TF - that 17 of my other level-capped characters have done - I can't use those pieces on a new character).

Starting to think GW2 will turn around my continuing jadedness with new MMO releases (actually not sure jadedness is a word - but I was very jaded about fantasy MMOs after playing WoW/EQ2 and the like, and the last few years of horrid MMO releases haven't helped).

Good stuff - keep the tidbits of info coming.

I'm really looking forward to GW2. I have been since I first read about it a year or so ago. Everything coming out now is only reinforcing the aspects of the game that make me want to play it more. That they're making things account-wide is a step in the right direction AFAIC. It looks awesome and I can't wait. It will be such a nice switch from what I've been playing recently.

Yes, when the Collectors Edition is released, by the gods let us know immediately. I'm never a fan of CE's as you usually get a coffee table book of artwork (that I wouldn't actually put out as a coffee table book in my house), the game, and then some figurine of some kind (again, that I wouldn't display)... but if it comes with Any real in-game perks... then I will heavily consider it, just because I'm so pumped for this game. Thanks, Rubi!

Can't wait for the 3-way PvP. Been yearning for more than 2 "factions" since DAoC.

What's with the awful screens? And the video's all shake-like (like it's fitted to a vibrator or something)

GW2 will set the standard for MMOs from here on in, and i guess i'll like it. (even though it's inevitable that it's going to be filled with whiny kids and other sick-in-the-head people, but that's not going to spoil my fun, no sir, not one bit. (i do hope there is going to be a "surprise, i'm gonna kill you" option in the final product..)
