Equipment and crafting in CO is actually pretty reasonably designed. It's way better than WoW's model where low tier crafting mats cost tons more than the crafted goods. WoW's gear model is substantially better overall, but CO is way more stat-focused (is that even possible?) rather than ability focused.

Once you know what stats you should be adding though, it's not a huge deal. WoW just has obvious "this item is for this class and its ilv is higher" sorts of mechanics that make it easier for non-minmaxers.
