Hold off on the wrist-slitting, Final Fantasy XIV fans, as Square-Enix's forthcoming MMORPG will indeed be going into open beta this week. In a short press release, Square has announced that the final phase of beta will begin tomorrow, September 2nd, at 02:00 GMT.
While the release contains no word as to the nature of the critical bugs that caused the postponement on Monday, Square does confirm that the issues have been dealt with. You can find out more details on the open beta, as well as pick up the required registration code, at the official open beta test application website.

To everyone who plays this game who HASN'T played FFXI: don't expect the standard mouse control of any other mmo. In a year+ of playing FFXI, I nedver used the mouse. The controls were all menu based, and you played by hitting macros, hotkeys, and learning to quickly surf your menus using the keyboard. It is definitely weird, but I liked the control scheme. Its very different from the standard, and its absolutely not "game breaking". Different does not = bad, learn to adapt to a new system, its easy.

After playing this open beta for a while i have 2 words for everyone:
STAY AWAY
The game is horrible,
- Hideous controls that require you to buy a gamepad to be playable.
- Combat is absolutely appaling, slow, almost turn based and boring.
- The kiddyness is overwhelming, midgets all over, cute flashy creatures, crazy humanoids etc.
- The UI is definitely not what you call "user-friendly", its cluttered and the cursor is laggy.
- No tutorial or any way to help the new players about how the game is played. Ask anyone in game how long did it take them to leave the first instance.
There is absolutely no reason for someone that is not an eastern or manga/anime lover, or ff fanboy and plain masochist to play this game.
Stay away guys, stay far away.

I'm playing the open beta now and have high hopes for it. The lag however is really making game play not so fun. I've been looking forward to this game for over 2 years and I played FFXI for 3 years. I do hope this game is good! Right now I've only been able to play for a couple hours because it took 7 1/2 hours to get the beta key and I've been having a lot of issued with the launcher's "updates".
Here's hoping they fix the mega lag issues. If not I will not be purchasing this game, which would really suck considering how many years I've been looking forward to it.
