Hold off on the wrist-slitting, Final Fantasy XIV fans, as Square-Enix's forthcoming MMORPG will indeed be going into open beta this week. In a short press release, Square has announced that the final phase of beta will begin tomorrow, September 2nd, at 02:00 GMT.
While the release contains no word as to the nature of the critical bugs that caused the postponement on Monday, Square does confirm that the issues have been dealt with. You can find out more details on the open beta, as well as pick up the required registration code, at the official open beta test application website.

Good. I got an email from them the other day. Hopefully I can get into it.

Hmm, I got that email too. Yesterday's beta didn't go through. I tried logging in exactly at like 7:02pm and got to the I accept thet erms and agreement phase and then got a error on page followed by 'down for maintenance'.
30 minutes later, same messages on all three computers I'm trying to get into the beta from. *Evil Staring Match with Square Enix's CRAPTASTIC SERVERS*. I can't wait to see how well launch day goes considering they'll have a higher volume than this Open Beta probably.

How do you actually get a key? I went to http://entry.ffxiv.com/, but I don't see any link to apply for a key...

Don't keep your hopes up too much yet either about the late midnight otnight. It was suppose to be late midnight last night and got delayed till today. There's a reasonable possibility they could decide 'We need more time!' ..again.

I'll be there. Curious about the updates and changes. And the world is too gorgeous to pass up, it echoes Final Fantasy.

Im pumped to try it out. But I really want to say that, I don't think the term wrist slitting should be used so nonchalantly.

The only person who should be slitting their wrists in this situation are the ones who are forced to play it.
Or the ones who can't cancel their Limited Edition pre-order.

That's great that you guys all hate on this. Makes it easier for me to get in faster for OB. I hope everyone here hates it. :D
I honestly support most of the changes they have made. I've watched gameplay, I've done so much research.
I think I might be the only one though. Haha

Yep, everyone who doesn't like the game or the announcements hasn't done any research at all and are in fact mouth-breathing yokels.

I hope you guys have it downloaded already. I've had the download running for the past 11 hours, and have got a total of 46 meg (out of the required 12 gig or so). It's not exactly what you call a speedy download.

Yeah, I downloaded the CB client, then it auto updated to OB. I'm all patched and ready to go. You have one huge dl, then a 1gig download, then a 9mb that just goes SLOOOOOOOOOW. I started dling at the right time, my friends are all at about 60% after 24hours of downloading. The problem is that updater rapes you when with the upload portion.

Yeah uploads is working at a fine speed, completely eating up almost all of my upload data, but downloads is barely doing anything... I can wait a few days but it still is a tiny bit annoying :D

I think my total download time was about 19 hours with it mostly going 24-50KB/sec which is very slow for my Internet connection and uploading at 150KB/sec with 11 local and 50 remote connections. The installed-size of the FF14 Beta is 8.9GB so I guess I probably downloaded at least 4GB compressed data.
I'm just glad I'm ready now to attempt for my Beta key tonight in 5 hours and 47 minutes. Now that I'm counting or anything. Nope.

No pre-downloading available? Apparently not... Not impressive.
