TERA is shaping up to be a huge hit with international audiences, and nowhere is this more evident than in En Masse Entertainment's willingness to reach out to fan communities outside the U.S. The latest example comes courtesy of TERAHispano, as they recently sat down with En Masse COO Patrick Wyatt for a round of questions regarding everything from microtransactions, to account security, to lag.
Wyatt has lots to say in the lengthy interview, and among the more interesting nuggets is the fact that En Masse expects TERA to ship with an M-rating. He also touches on performance issues, pointing to the Focus Group Tests as evidence that lag won't be an issue for the game's action combat system. "When we built the first Western servers for TERA, we selected a QA datacenter just a few miles from our offices in Seattle, which meant that European players who joined our Focus Group Tests were playing on servers over 5000 miles away. Based on the forum posts, polls, and informal surveys from those events, we didn't see lag problems," Wyatt says.
Finally, he reiterates that TERA will not be a microtransaction-based title, and also discusses GameGuard and alternatives to the intrusive anti-cheat software.

I read the title quickly as having something to do with Tera Patrick. Don't act like you don't know who that is.

It also makes sense that she'd be talking about M-ratings. Know what I mean!

I googled "Tera Patrick" to see what the big deal was all about. I understand now. I too am disappointed this article does not feature large pictures of Tera Patrick in the usual attire.

I was lured in by Tera Patrick as well. Quite dissappointing.

Wow, didn't know they were considering GameGuard for TERA....thank god they went away from it. That created soooo many problems in Aion that they ditched it. I'll take the occasional aimbotter over that any day of the week.

GameGuard causes problems and is insanely easy to circumvent. It took me a few minutes to find instructions on how to disable it so that I could play Aion beta, as the game wouldn't run otherwise. I don't see an anti-cheat software this flawed catching any cheaters. The only thing it's ever been good at is getting on legit customers' nerves.

This article seriously needs MOAR brunette pornstars. X-Rated ones, not M-Rated ones. :P

They said the exact same bs for AION and it was all a bucket of hog wash. Lag will always makes a difference until someone starts developing active time traveling technology and integrates it into the game engine. It's insulting that they would even try to get away with lying about something so obvious.

There's a difference between a game with constant lag issues and a game with the occassional laggy blip. They are talking about lag during combat. If they limit the number of things doing stuff during combat (i.e. instances) then the lag will be controllable.
That doesn't mean that they'll have no lag in the major player hub with 2,000 people all hanging around. I bet the Europeans on the North American server will experience lag. If it doesn't affect combat or instances then it may not be a real big deal.
