Agreed, it's sad that people cannot just get along and accept that some people believe in religion. If you don't, that's fine; if you do, that's still fine.

Though some were quite funny (3 day spawn timer). There were a few I found rude and a little offensive.

people joke about everything on the internet. if you think this is insulting you might want to stop reading comments in general, because this is pretty well behaved compared to a lot of other places. try reading some of the mac vs pc threads on engadget for example...

I think what you're seeing is the backlash created by the christian right trying to legislate morality. As you can see, a lot of people are sick of it. Sick of being judged, sick of being called a sinner and sick of being told they're going to hell. You can't get elected in the US without pretending to be a christian. The majority of the politics coming from the christian right these days are pro-war, anti-poor, anti-immigrant.

Even if that doesn't describe you, that's what's in the news and it's a platform of hate. Not what Jesus taught. Not at all.

If posting silly/rude jokes semi-anonymously on an internet gaming forum is what it takes for people to see they're not alone in their analysis of christianity then I'm all for it.

With all due respect, but you are clearly choosing to be offended by what people are saying.

Concidering the reply I got that person clearly wants to feel offended or doesn't know his own religion well enough to understand what is being said.

And thats without going in the debate.

There's a difference between insulting a religion and insulting a game. In the case of Bible Online...posters are ridiculing the idea of of Christainty as a game. If anything that's quite insulting to turn a religion into a game. Nothing sacred about it.

I couldn't believe logging on to see 70+ comments of "jokes" and insults about the game or just The Bible in general. Most of them don't even know anything about what the game is about, but just come to insult and make jokes. And yes, if they did this in any other section about any other game they'd be grayed out or removed.

Some of these people who would get very upset if people said anything negative about a game without really knowing about it are here insulting and being negative and thinking it's funny. Why does all civility go out the window and it becomes free reign for insults when it's a Bible game?

I do have a serious concern tho, I don't seem to be able to play this from the US? Or at least it's not letting me sign up at their site saying I'm either region restricted or playing from an open proxy.

I hate to state the blindingly obvious but welcome to the internet where everything - and I mean absolutely everything - is fair game for insult, derision and mockery.

I don't come to a gaming site to hear about the word of God. If I wanted to do that, I'd go to church. I'm here on a gaming site, reading an article about a game. The comments here are just a bonus.

What ever happened to "turn the other cheek"? This little diatribe is why I cannot seem to take religion seriously. Offended? Next you'll be crying that this game is blasphemy against your Christ and start demanding jihad... wait... that's the mirror religion to yours. Nevermind.

I'm sure you get my point.

The NTE (New Testament Expansion) ruined the whole thing IMHO. You used to have to master four random professions to become a Jesus, now you can just start out as one.

I'm an athiest and I'm offended by this game.

My friend's a Scientologist and he's hooked.

You probably thought I was being serious.

I wonder if they will eventually add a Hell expansion, so you can play one of the Satan’s minions and gank God’s prophets in PvP. Mouhahahahaaaaa!

What backlash? The Christian Right hasn't been a force in politics since the 80s with the days of the moral majority: the Bushes more or less ignored them. I'd also bet many of the posters here are from the EU where the Christian "right" hasn't been in power for millenia.

It's just acceptable targets. Most people are used to being spoonfed a Ned Flanders stereotype about religious people in the same way they get spoonfed stereotypes of other social groups the people in the media dislike, like rednecks.

What really annoys me about the game is that it is just laziness to try and make a quick buck. I don't think any Christian and anyone who cares about MMOs would turn the Bible into a cheap Travian clone. It's rewarding to see that their official forums don't have even a single post.

So do we get to go on quests to promote homophobia, misogyny, violence against women and the slaughtering of heathens? Finally, someone treating the bible with what it deserves. A fantasy story set in fantasy realm.

My beliefs are my own, so take what i type with a big grain of salt and watch your own lane......

A fantasy MMO about a fantasy book, interesting, though not at all original. Why all the fuss? The Koran or however you spell it and the Bible are both fantasy works, not to big of jump to turn them into fantasy online MMO's. They both charge people to be "saved" by asking for "tax free donations", so why not charge people online? Best pyramid schemes on the planet these religions.

The New Testament expansion sounds like it will suck. I mean, you just know they're going to make you play the same campaign four times with only minor differences in the narrative before they finally let you open up the Revelations endgame content.

Hmmm i wonder which version of the Bible they used? I can see potential for future expansions, Old Testament, New Testament, The Catholic Expansion pack with the Apocrapha, the LDS expansion with the Book of Mormon and so forth... hehe... so much room for expansion, so much marketing potential.
