I "forgot " this game right off my hard drive. The owners of the game were dragged kicking and screaming to the ftp arena..and the game and its meager convoluted options show it.

I agree with you. I think a free-to-play model will soon be the dominant model, but the way SOE did it with Everquest 2 is really bad. Changing, jobs, animations, and things that had been set in "stone" for the benefit of the ftp server even though the live servers were not "supposed" to change does not jive with me, hence my canceling of my account.

They are making all classes purchasable, and they're working on changes of broker/chat system for bronze users.

EQ2X for the first week was an F-up, certainly.

But they are making all kinds of stuff purchasable, which is a big deal IMO.

Ill admit that the way the membership matrix was set up was not ideal at 1st, put it does seem like they are listening to the feedback and suggestions they are receiving, and are making some necessary changes to the game to make it less restrictive and more appealing all around. But all in all, even with some of the limiting factors that are in place, its still a fun game and their is a ton of content to keep people busy for a long time before they would ever need to drop any cash into the game. Just give it a shot. You might end up having a ton of fun! And if not, well, all you lost was a little of your time.
