@abriael The article you link clearly states there is an effective limit on how much you can play a certain class per week. So yes you can and probably will hit that limit depending on play style. And no, unless you switch classes, it can't be avoided.

If you have ways to avoid it, then it's not an hard limit. It's just a soft cap. And if you don't plan playing at least a couple classes, then FFXIV isn't for you, just like FFXI, regardless of the fatigue mechanic.

The whole selling point of the game is the armoury system and the ability to mix and match skills of multiple classes to make a character tailored upon your tastes. Playing the game without taking advantage of that would be like playing WoW without doing any PvE or warhammer online without doing RvR.

This without to mention the fact that playing a single class is like having no subjob in FFXI. You have lower stats, lower HP, lower mana, lower resistances and less skills. It's basically not a viable character, again, regardless of Fatigue.

@Abriael

Still though, you can't deny that there is an effective limit. Whether you've decided there's a hard cap or soft cap, there's still a limit. That's what people are mad at. Unfortunately, regardless of how the game plays, people don't want to have a limit like this hanging over their heads. And if my assumption is correct, a lot people will not play the game because of mechanics like this.

And you know, I say all of this understanding that most people will never go over this limit. The fact that it's there is a deterrent for many people -- which is obvious in my opinion.

Of course, being that it's still beta, things can change. From what I understand, and I do have friends that play in the closed beta, people aren't very happy about SE's response to player feedback. So I'm not hopeful that anything drastic will change, and I'm not sure that I even want to give the game a chance now.

Super excited, but I dunno if I want to actually play beta and ruin the experience of actually playing the game for the first time. Still debating whether I'll play beta or wait patiently.

Especially since I intend to mainly play it on PS3, not computer.

Guaranteed. If there isn't enough complaining about the system requirements or lack of hardware mouse now, there will be once Open Beta launches.

They may think that it's not a big deal, but the majority of regular MMO gamers who are used to a responsive mouse control will NOT pick this up if the horrid lag isn't fixed.

I don't understand, is it really that hard for people to spend the few minutes it takes to pair a console controller to their PC? I realize not everyone has paired their gamepads to their computer already (Though I did long ago, or I wouldn't be able to play any games on this thing) but it's not that involved a process.

It's not hard, but many people playing on PC, well, want to play with PC controls. There's nothing wrong with that.

If I wanted to use a gamepad for something like this, I'd play Mass Effect. SE just dropped the ball.

They didn't drop anything yet. Mouse control actually improved a LOT in beta 3, they can easily improve it further.

LOL They most certainly did drop the ball. This game could be so much more, really doesn't even look as good as I'd hoped. It's FFXI Redux.

Pretty obvious you're completely biased towards this game, whereas I just wanted a good gaming experience. The search continues.

For some of us used to 11's gamepad controls (no, you didn't want to use a mouse on that game either) it shouldn't be a problem; for everyone else who Square's hoping to woo into subscription, it won't. Boggles my mind why they never developed a PC-centric control scheme to go with it; with the console release a half year away, they need GOOD word of mouth, not the shit they've gotten for the last 2-3months from testers, to get the thing going.

The only real good so far that's come out of it, is that FF11 has become much, MUCH better ever since Tanaka/Komoto/Sage Sundi left to work on 14. Abyssea areas are a treat for people wishing to fight strong mobs, with NMs repopping hourly/90mins, overpowered atmas and lots of elements that're starting to make the game actually feel like a Final Fantasy. Wish Fujito/Gondai will go 'help' 14 as well, but thus far the experience is good enough and they're listening to the fanbase more now that moving on is an afterthought.

@ Sneaky: Mass Effect (1) doesn't even have full gamepad support on PC..... >.> I don't know about 2 I didn't even try.

The song in the preview is just beautiful and moving, I must get the CD! I'll probably add it to my Amazon order if it's there. I'm excited for open beta and hopefully a smoother UI.

Didn't mean I'd play it on PC. I shall re-phrase: If I wanted to use a gamepad, I'd play my 360.

And with that statement you completely miss the point, some of us want to play on PC with a fracking gamepad with actual native support and not some lame arsed hack job just so you can put the Microsoft sticker on the box.

Look past your own nose and you might notice there are more then on type of player out there.

@Darkmoone - You obviously don't know the depth of fanboyism some people(myself included) have for Square. It's worse than fratboys and Bungie.

Since I haven't had a chance to play it yet and all I'm going on is hearsay and rumors, I'm going to save my judgement on this until I play the finished product. I really can't with though...

I'd be more willing to pay for the cinematics in FF than I would the actual game. Beautiful stuff!

I come from the "Kings quest" era of games, to this day old sierra games are still some of my fav's. Today's gamers are a bunch whiny brats who will never be content...."my mouse is too slow", WTF, GTFO. FFXIV is a beautiful game and has a wonderful story line as does the entire series. Get off your high horses, games of this caliber are just as much "Art" as they are "Games" for your enjoyment. IF you can't appreciate the "Artistic Expression" go make your own games. How dare anyone put down the hard work and creativeness of the people who put countless hours of their dreams and art into these games. Oh I get it, most are sad because they didn't make it how you wanted or the "popular way"

Ive played countless games over the years and can enjoy memories with every single one of em today. You all can call me a "Fan Boi" or whatever you please, all I'm saying is I appreciate the hard work put into all games. On a closing statement I've read countless posts/feedback on games and most suggestions are just down right pathetic...Most people crying about games not having this or that cannot come up with anything even remotely interesting in comparison. Lots of backseat drivers who can't even reach the pedals IMO.
