I heard that the "open beta" will be conducted via invitations. Anyone have any confirmation on this, or is it just speculation?

Unclear at the moment. The wording of the announcements make it seem that way, but that could just mean they'll give an invite to anyone who asks. (I.e., you need to have signed up with an SE account and request a beta key; it won't be just download the client and go.)

From what FFXIVCore says it seems mostly people that were in the Beta before are getting into this one at first but after thet they will start sending out more invites.

It's not an actual "open" beta though. Invite only.

That's a very constructive attitude to go into an open beta there.

If it can't change my mind more money for me. Better then going into it thinking "this is going to be the best thing ever", ignoring the bads, forking out the money, then finally facing reality.

Honestly though I just want to try out the combat, that's not something that's going to change after open-beta. If the combat is good and the general gameplay is good I can get past all the UI bugs etc. cos they are things that are to be expected in a beta test

I'll be there for the next phase, just to see what the devs have tinkered and upgraded from the previous build.

yes you have to fill out a app but the app is not a detailed as their others probably make a SE acct. ( if you dont already have one ) and enter your email etc. etc.

This is great news if it really is open and not some kind of "invite only, open beta"

Can't wait to finally see for myself how things are going to be regarding ui controls, game play speed, fatigue/surplus, system requirements ( my rig scored well on the benchmark but I've been hearing mixed things about that benchmark being skewed.)

As far as I can tell, the best way to play may be to hook up my 360 controller and use the keyboard for chat, is that even possible I wonder? guess I'll find out in a few days

Yeah, they designed it to work with controllers and the keyboard so most likely you will be able to use your controller to play and your keyboard to type.

There better be big changes in the Open Beta build, a new UI, fixing mouse controls, and all the supposed missing content better be in, or they will a lot of potential customers before release.

For now they published a text command list that does show a lot of new stuff. Improved chat, friend list and blacklist, sitting (even on chairs), checking other characters, subtargets, text emotes...

Might not sound like much but people have been asking for that stuff a lot.

Pretty song at the beginning. I can't seem to find any matches for the lyrics of who sings this. Any ideas?

It's Susan Calloway (SusanCalloway.com). She's done some of the 'Distant Worlds' concerts now.

I wanted to try this game so bad, but they murdered it for me, XP fatigue? really? Im going to pay monthly for a game with an effective limit on one character?

I understand they don't want the no lifer's to top end so fast, but that doesnt seem like the way to do it.

I also think they are doing this cause they are worried about population. and if (like wow) you make rolling a new toon the most effective thing to do then people will likely find groups easier.

but if im going to pay to play, i better be able to get my money's worth.

For the 100th time. There's no "effective limit". It's a soft cap that can be easily avoided. You can easily going on all week if you want (and no, you don't need to play all classes).

here's how it works:
