I'm so angry at Cryptic for doing what it did with STO and for doing the cash shop while skimping on the general game play elements to an extreme level of starvation content wise.

It looks like it is trying to change its ways with STO now and its new leader and the big shack up on the management team but I cant help but wonder if it is too late. I also think the marketing department at Cryptic needs to be fired as it caused several of the biggest meltdowns STO experienced since launch.

With that said, the only saving grace for the situation I can think of is that of FunCom and AoC. It stuck with it for AoC and now AoC is a pretty solid value to be sure. Maybe Cryptic is mimicking FunCom.

Anyway, I'm on the fence with the issue at hand. I'm a big huge NWN fan as well as D&D and to be frank Turbine's MMO simply did not capture my interest at all.

Additionally on a side note, since the principle topic is NWN - I feel so screwed over by Obsidian that I will never purchase another title from that company.

Hmm. Cautiously optimistic at this point. Cryptic has a history of making shallow MMO's that have a very short life in regards to "replayability".

The best part of NWN1 wasn't the out of the box mission, it was the toolset. NWN2 forgot this completely and focused more on the brand being what they hoped would make the game sell versus putting out a product that didn't have the polish of a first-stage beta release.

My fear is Cryptic will do the same, hoping enough people blindly buy it and that they can integrate the same "mission building" topical toolset they use in City of Heroes but with D&D skins.

While I haven't read anything to support this, my bet is that you'll have to log in to a central server, and "submit" your missions for play. No realms or campaigns or DM's but just a map/instance made in their toolset that is more or less a private "raid".

If the above is the case I won't at all be interested. Bioware not being tied to it for the 2nd time makes me nervous, Cryptic being behind it makes me cynical and it being touted as a competitor to DDO instead of an homage to NWN1 makes me downright disappointed.

So let me get this straight.

Cryptic is making an MMO (Neverwinter), based on a set of tabletop RPG rules (4e) which are based on MMO's (WOW in particular), who can trace their lineage straight back to tabletop AD&D?

You kids crack me up.
