My favorite MMO is what WAR could have been, so it's a bit hard to preach about it.

Generally no simply because my friends are not overly interested.

Everybody to their own. Don't preach about it, talk about it.
I test out their games if I feel like it, and in reverse, they get to play a couple hours on different levels in my game(s).

With friends that I know like to play MMOs then yeah I'll tell them if I'm really enjoying my current MMO, if I'd like them to join me there - they all do exactly the same for me. I won't evangelise if they make it clear they're not interested - I won't keep pushing - but once I've told them the good things about the game I'd push them to at least trial it.

With non-MMO gamers and non-gamers then no, I'm not going to evangelise my current MMO, because that would make me look like a ridiculous geek.

There's nothing worse than people who keep droning on about their hobby when nobody around them shares that passion - I get it from co-workers who like banal TV shows like X-Factor, Big Brother or soap operas - I get it from friends and co-workers who are totally addicted to certain sports I find very boring (cricket especially) - I get it from a friend who is addicted to Wii-gaming when I don't see what the fuss is all about.

I don't want to be that person who goes on and on about their hobby when nobody around them cares one bit about it - so I only evangelise MMOs to those gamers I have a good chance of converting to the cause.

Most of my friend are not really into mmorpg, but i do try from time to time to get them to play with me. So far it worked for WOW, WAR and ST:O, and oddly enough, they are still playing the game while i'm not.

I have to say yes... I do tend to talk about whatever game I am currently playing. I used to sing praises about Guild Wars, tried to get everyone excited about STO prelaunch, and because I have just started playing WoW (I know right welcome to 2004) I have been talking to everybody at work about it. I would say to the 35 year old guy as a 30 year old college Instructor you might be surprised at who IS playing your game.

Oh and to preach the good word in only a few days STO is releasing their first weekly episode! And I am trying out a shaman right now but I think I like hunter best so far...

I've always been guilty of evangelizing my game of the moment/month/year/whatever. Games are a social experience and really are no fun without friends to share them with no matter the format.

So, yes, come play LotR:O, it is teh roXXorzZZ!

Do I proselytize? No.
Would I like to? Yes.
As a professional who deals with government clients, gaming is viewed as a social vice. It would be more acceptable to be an alcoholic who had a small domestic abuse issue than to be a gamer who enjoys fragging a few Horde after a long day.

I think I solved that problem by not having any friends. Well, not many anyway. They just tend to want to always do things that I have absolutely no interest in, so I don't bother. I guess I'm not a typical person.

My girlfriend on the other hand will at least try out most any game I hype up to her, which is cool.

Haha I mainly keep my MMO hobby a secret, so I don't preach that everyone should play my game. That is... except on here, of course... However... I do tend to be on the receiving end of this a little too often for my liking.

The most I've done was trying to convert some Ragnarok Online players to World of Warcraft. I succeeded, but many will say it was not my merit, but a matter of how tiring Ragnarok Online is...

Other then that I always try to invite friends to play what I'm playing, even if they are not much into MMOs. I did have some of those "eewww you play games" answers, but I always shot back a "eewww you buy shoes every week" or "eeww you watch soapopera daily" and all is settled ;)

nahh.. I only seriously talk about MMO's with my friends that play MMO's. Considering how "everywhere" the genre is these days if people haven't tiptoed into one by now they probably will not, but who knows really. If someone asks about them I answer as impartially as possible though, so I suppose I'm not much of an evangelist, but it's not like anybody I know that doesn't game even asks about them in passing let alone with serious interest.

Only if someone else brings up the subject of MMOs. Sure, I don't really hide the fact that I'm a total nerd, but I don't show it by rambling on randomly to people who aren't interested in it >.>;
