I'm pretty sure it's meant to be like an award for the most impressive game that seems like it has potential, since GamesCon seems to be largely focused on showcasing forthcoming games in development, at least from the footage I've seen. It's the same as a game at E3 getting a "Best in Show" award.

Yes. They give awards based on what the game seems like compared to other non-finished games.

I wouldn't put much faith into anything not released, but I am looking forward to Black Prophecy and hope it ends up a solid MMO.

They also awarded Guild Wars 2, which is another game that seems to have great potential. The released visuals are top notch. Hopefully the gameplay will match.

Before closed beta, the full-time professional gamers that work for the company test these games to ensure that they work, and to see if it really could make it as a game. They can't just send a game out there without approval.

It might be fun to go back in history to see what other games won awards... I wonder how many of those prior winners went down in flames following release and how many (if any) were successful.

This award sounds rather dubious. How can it be "best" if people haven't played it yet? Shouldn't it be "most anticipated" or something else instead?

Imagine if Gamespot start handing out Game of the Year awards to unreleased games.

as an Eve player - I'm also looking forward to this MMO. I grew up on X-wing vs Tie Fighter and the Wing Commander series, and fighter-based twitch action is something I wish comes to Eve at some point. Until then, Black Prophecy seems to fit this bill. :)

Ditto for me, I was an X-Wing vs Tie Fighter junky as well as Wing Commander and all those old great space sim shooters.

Actually the game was playable at the show. But this is going up against a lot of other games that haven't been released yet. I don't see what the big deal is. Look forward to it though. should be a blast.

i wished they would fail so they would build neocron 3 instead on the other hand, then they would have no money and probably no publisher, which would be bad... gah! give me neocron 3.

I like all these ignorant comments that talk about unreleased games, this game is in closed beta and was fully playable at the show and reasonably won the best or "most-anticipated" as some want to call f2p. I don't like most of gamigo's games but this seems to be their highest quality product so I will be keeping an eye on.
