I stopped reading after seeing Champions Online listed for best online game nominee, a complete and total joke of an awards group from the look of it. I wonder how much you have to pay to get a nomination?

champions online is actually really fun. if u just forget about all the things cryptic promised everyone and play the game as if you had never heard about it before, it's a casual mmo experience much better than the boring equivalents of wow, and the character creator/nemesis sytem is EPIC!
and no, i don't work at cryptic. AT ALL. EVER.

I simply laugh at the GDC, what a hollow event. In a nutshell its nothing more than an AAA meeting for developers. Giving each other hugs for being ignorant and producing poor games, and getting that one time a year they can lash out at consumers for being dressed down about their poor work.

You folks Really need to hear the badmouthing these folks put on gaming customers, apparently they feel they are justified since they were abused in the marketplace the entire year. The majority of developers constantly show poor wisdom and yet they lash out in front of each other to cheers and claps trying to justify their own actions and choices.

The exception and number of developers are few and far between that deliver a product someone pays for that meets advertised standards.

I think it would be fitting to have some regulation enforcement enacted and presented to these people during one of their hugfests. It would be sweet to see feet held to the fire in the form of massive fines and punitive actions like any other business.

I cant stand development with no oversight, no set plan, and even less self control.

My keynote speech for the GDC? The following ISO standards are now going to be implemented and externally enforced, fines for the following violations include........

(grin)

That's the kind of attitude that would cause them to act that way in the first place.

Developers are people, and people make mistakes. Holding them to higher standards than everyone else just means more disappointments and more torch and pitchfork commentary. Bad games will happen, just like there are bad cars, bad TVs, bad food, bad medicine, etc.

Also your "regulations" are not going to help. People buy what they want to buy, including brand name shovelware and *gasp* games like Call of duty, Halo, and World of Warcraft.

I just hope they continue to ignore the http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FanDumb

Oh crap I linked tvtropes! THE INFECTION IS SPREADING!

Strange...I was at GDC last year and will there again this year. In my experience, the developers generally sat around with reporters and talked games or stood around with other developers talking games.

'Course, could be just my solitary experience.

Oh, lolz - EVE for the The Best Community Relations Award.
The company that couldn't be arsed to read forums themselves, so they "hired" (a free trip to Iceland) a bunch of players to do it.

And when those players report stuff they go "Bzzzt, talk to the hand".

Should have been nominated for the Most Cunning Community Denial Award.

I think I'm the most entertained by Farmville being nominated in some of the same categories as World of Warcarft.

Just sayin'.
