Un-fckng-believable
Who in the world even runs like that?
I've always had a problem with these kind of things in games, not just 'cause it's insulting but for the fact that it became most effective way of advertising a game.
I mean, if showing vagina is the only way to draw some population to a game then you either know the game sux and the sex is the only way to sell it, or you are just perverted thinking that people will buy it just for that (though some do buy/play it just for that).
I myself, never have and never will fall for this, if i play game i play it to have fun and not to stare at some chicks vagina or abnormally big boobies, there are other means for accomplishing that.

Although I'm sure there are many male gamers that will be happy to play a character like that, I kind of find it creepy personally.

I'll concede that many MMO characters are designed with sex as a motif, however Tera does seem to play it up more than most. WAR did it with some of their characters and AoC certainly had its far share of breasts. However neither of those games feel quite as sleazy.

Both AoC and WAR are true to their source material. Conan's world has always been about sex and violence, while WAR's table top origins have many examples of half naked chicks with swords. I suppose if you have a problem with the source material then you will have a problem with these games. However both Mythic and Funcom can argue fair use of these sexual elements in their games because of the IPs they are based on.

Tera doesn't have that excuse. Its a completely 'original' fantasy world (to my knowledge), they don't have to worry about staying true to the IP. Its sex for the cheap thrill, it adds nothing to the world or atmosphere, I'd even argue that the world concept and atmosphere is degraded by having something so blatantly 'fan service' in their.

I can't say I'm morally shocked or offended by Tera, but those characters put me off giving Tera a serious look.

TERA appears to be an Asian-style MMO. Asians have this odd fascination with panty-shots. I dunno why, and I'm not into that, but it seems to be some sort of cultural thing. Heck, Japan even has vending machines that sell used panties!

Now, I ran this article by my wife and she wasn't all that offended by it. In fact, the sexual overtones of a spell-caster actually made sense to her. She is a Pagan and in her religion, sexuality is a powerful source for magic. Sexuality is calling upon nature and is thus a part of nature magic. Heck, she has even done some of her ceremonies "sky-clad" (aka nude). Now, I'm not Pagan, so that's not my area. I'm just relating what she is telling me.

Would I play TERA? Probably not. Not due to the sexuality, but it just doesn't seem to interest me. I am awaiting SWTOR - but that's just me.

My problem with clothing choices have little to do with how good they look on the character. While I'd never complain about eye candy, I do complain about the combat-readiness of the clothing.

For example, some of the plate I've seen in WoW just doesn't make sense on a female. It's a freaking bikini.

HEY LADY, YOUR MIDSECTION IS *EXPOSED*. That is just a huge freaking target for a weapon to go, and cause what would probably be a lethal wound. Yes, your boobies would be well-protected, but those aren't the point here.

You know what game did pretty well in both the nice-looking-models and the actually-functional department? Dark Age of Camelot. Their later models ain't half bad, and their armor pieces make the characters look good without looking unprotected.

Are MMOs too over-sexualized?

As someone with lower body thong armor for one of my female Lineage 2 characters, I'd strongly have to disagree. :)

Tera is beautiful, armor design to be sexy is one thing but does she really have to run with her butt upward? That is over doing it there. I don't might the skimpy armor but to stare at my toon butt all the time while playing is too much. =)

Wow! I'd never seen a pair of over-sized breasts or an under-dressed woman before playing an MMO!

The only reason I don't like it (and I'm a male) is that it makes me look like a pervert when I have friends over and they see me playing the game. Try as I might to convince them that there is a deep storyline, or the gameplay is fun... they don't believe it when they see some female character take all the clothes off and begin to dance, and I happen to be AFK.

It's kind of like trying to convince people you read Playboy for only the articles, and even if it's true, you still find it tough convincing people that there is actually a really good game you're playing... not trying to score free softcore porn.

If you guys really want to feel dirty, then play ASDA Story. Tiny little lolis in straw bikini armor. I seriously felt uneasy when I played it.

I think video games *are* unfair to men. I mean, how many of us gamers are tall, muscular, handsome manly men who can swing a two-handed sword bigger'n our bodies and STILL manage to cleave a giant sharktopusquatchness monster in two? Is that what they think the ideal male is?

You know what?!?!?! I am so offended now, I just might unsubscribe and go play Free Realms. :P

I think if this article was about an MMO with glissening scantily clad men doing "interesting" things with each other, I have a gut feeling that Dude wouldn't be as enthusiastic about that. Let's put it this way...hysterical priests come to mind; let's have more fun.

Can't make everyone happy. If all of these games featured rippling men in armor alongside women in burkas, people would be crying that women don't get to express themselves. Sex is natural, boobs are natural, there were penises in Mortal Online. Get over it already.

After watching a bunch of Tera videos to try to see what was meant by 'jiggle physics' the only thing I'm offended by is those huge japanimation swords. I hate those, they're so stupid looking. Why isn't anyone complaining about the obvious giant phallic symbols you run around with in the game?

Yeah, I'm a tiny little effeminate elf-boy, but look at my giant sword!!

I kept my paladin covered by a tabard throughout the Burning Crusade expansion. There wasn't much I could do about the so-called plate leg armor that was a pair of thigh-highs and a loincloth, but the tabard helped.
