Well here's the latest PR spin form the Stock-Aikten & Waterman of the mmo biz. Sorry fool me once shame on me fool me twice and then dangle a third carrot shame on you.

I'd love to believe this but history tells the true story. Fast tracked mmo's dont work long term. And saying you'll change doesn't mean anything. As it stands NWN's success is a solid game, good modding tools and 1st class support for the community. Bioware made that happen.

Now cryptic with it's history of one bad decision after another, lest we forget the life time sub and expansion fiascos, is not in that league. Their tech could be but the dev cycle and management clearly aren't. STO is clear proof of that. CO in space.

Cryptic's trying to distance itself from it's piss poor handling of it's games up til now but to be honest, fronting up to making a mediocre game doesn't win respect. We knew that already. also in this supposedly touchy-feely modern world it seems that game companies are trapped between the ruthless business pratices in other industries and the counter-culture of the internet. What it amounts to is flip-flopping, all the while killing your rep.

Good luck Cryptic, you need it if you're going to either a) turn a real corner or b) rip off more gamers with yet another mediocre fast tracked game.

Guess which my money's bet on?

How can they expect to get reviews when they are making a game in a segment that almost doesn't exist?

...or are they actually gonna turn it into one of the big segments to get that review?

@Syntax
Sure, in this case it is perhaps even more vague as this magazine is even called called "Massively" but don't give me the crap that you just defined what an MMO is because I assure you that the "massively" in MMO is something really vague and shouldn't all be interpreted as it is only WoW and its clones.

Considering Cryptic's awful track record in making games I enjoy (ie: I haven't enjoyed any of them), I'm a bit bummed that they've been picked up to continue the Neverwinter Nights franchise.

As numero uno in my eyes of western MMO developers that simply pump out MMOs to attempt to make quick cash in on box sales to the burn out addict market that was developed by WoW, I just don't see Cryptic having anything remotely resembling the type of dedication I'd like to see in anyone who's going to continue on the NWN line. Granted, NWN2 was a mess, with fugly characters, even fuglier animations, and some of the worst camera controls ever developed in gaming history.

One glimmer of sunshine is that since Cryptic at least has the basic mechanics of the MMO framework down, many of those issues won't be an issue with this new NWN game. I just won't be waiting with bated breath for any actual meat (ie: story, content, etc). Which is a shame. :(

Emmert is the M Night Shyamalan of video games. Everything he touches is incredibly awful and lame, yet he's delusional and cares nothing for what his audience wants.

Best comment EVAR! I so agree. He did well ONCE and now we're all being tortured for it.

Cryptic, eh?

Love their work, can't wait to see how they ruin this one!

Yes I'm just hating, but you're gonna tell me I don't have reason?

Right on with the M Night comment! Perfectly accurate.

A few more of my 2 cents:
- if Massively is going to draw the line at "OMGs," I think they're shooting themselves in the foot. The general idea of Neverwinter sounds like what I've actually wanted out of an MMO since EQ. I want a huge world and a massive number of players, but I don't want content that requires me to play outside my core group of friends. WoW's shift to support 10player raiding suggests a similar trend, no? Bring on the OMGs.

- Cryptic is just simply horrible. I am deeply, deeply upset the D&D license is going to them and the first 4e online game is going to be squandered on an outfit with such an abysmal track record.

Wow. This guy needs to sell used cars or something.

CoH is a better game now than STO and CO and probably has more subscribers after Going Rogue launched.

I am glad he figured out that the initial impact can make or break your game. His stupidity combined with Craptics money grubbing ways is a recipe for disaster.

What it seems to me is we're getting a WoW game that we can add content too. Now that's just dumb.

I want and RP game that I can RP, that I can change and interact with. I want a game with a toolset and DM client planned, not an after thought or something thrown in but planned and worked on.

Come on!! How about an actual well made online RP game. Best example, NWN1. They got it right and sense then everyone has failed. How hard is it to see the success of that game.

People are supposed to learn from their mistakes not keep making them!
