Whether you're a groundpounder or a space jockey, The Old Republic is gunning your way, big-time. Fans of either (or both!) aspects of the game have a little more to look forward to this week, as BioWare released additional information on the advanced classes and rolled out the first two starfighters for the public to see.
In its recent Fan Friday, BioWare clarified the 16 class specializations by listing each of their top three attributes. For example, bounty hunter players have the choice between powertech or mercenary paths. Powertechs will assume more of a tank role, with flamethrowers and defense shields at the ready. Mercenaries, on the other hand, are to be the ranged DPS version of the class, dealing out the pain with dual guns and missiles.
If the recently revealed space combat has you itching to jump into the cockpit, you can check out the first two starships (out of six) that will take pilots through the midst of adrenaline-pumping battles. The Fury is an Imperial interceptor (which looks like a predecessor of the TIE Interceptor), designed with speed and firepower in mind. Its counterpart, the Defender, is a standard Republic corvette that's been upgraded with turbolasers and shields for quick combat missions. Hopefully, we'll find out the remaining four fighters before too long!

They have pics of the ships they THINK the ships in SWTOR will be based off of.

Why is this even news? It's the same info here
http://www.massively.com/2010/06/15/bioware-discuss-swtor-player-ships-group-gameplay-and-pvp-at-e3/
All they did was move the already exsisting information and media about the two ships we already knew exsisted.

If it maintains on the on rails shooter aspect. Then that would be a no as far as turning around goes.
You should always be moving forward in the battle and if you miss or fail at a key point then it will be the end of the mission.
I imagine its going to play out ALOT like the ship combat in the new Clone Wars game by SOE. Both of them look to be about the same as far as what we have seen of them both.

We really don't know what we can or cannot do yet in ToR. This is just a news snippet just like the rest. The fans and the media then blow everything out of proportion, then things expand to adding things onto the news release that really isn't true.
My advice is to take everything you read with a grain of salt.
Oh and don't read the main forums because you will be overwhelmed because it's looking like the WoW forums.

I think the "on rails" method will work better, it will allow them to direct you to the points you NEED to go to, make development a lot easier, allow them to focus on making the game itself good rather than just a certain mechanic, and it will help tell a story.

You can only move up/down/left/right... it is 1980's gameplay, like Galaga, but prettier.
Alternatively, just play the Clone Wars Adventures' minigame called Starfighter, and it's pretty much that but without barrel rolls.

If fan speculation is right, the ships matching those blanked-out silhouettes are for Bounty Hunter(top left), Trooper(top right), Agent(bottom left), and Smuggler(bottom middle).

What great stuff did they get? The Republic has cool stuff too. I like how the Defender looks. It looks a bit lopsided with the heavy front end, but I like how it looks, with the cozy interiors.

Those ships don't look very big. Can we really fit the player character and the companions into it? Speaking of which, do these ships have npc crew members?
