I would be really interested in hearing more about the current state of "Pirates of the Burning Sea" -- especially once the upcoming expansion is in place.

I've always been curious to try something like PotBS, but I know it's had some legitimate problems.

Sadly, the wall of nerdrage and hatespew surrounding the game's troubles has made it very difficult to get a fair and accurate sense of the /current/ state of the game.

Thanks to Stephen K. for the screenshot!

I am always fair, heres a short descript. The ocean fights were a blast, especially witht the fixes they finally put in. Port battles i am iffy on since i havent played for a couple months since a friend wanted me to revisit. When i did play the only problem with port battles was when you chose your fleet invites you had several doors to choose from, these would place you at different areas of the map, more often than not your fleet would be split up in two very far apart areas and then get picked off, basically causing your loss, and at the time the devs would not "reset" these losses due to bugs, this cost them the majority of their subs.

Crafting is so so, you are limited by your account as to how many structures you can have, this is to prevent self sufficiency. To be that you will need three accounts.

The game overall is a great idea just implemented in a tiny world with odd mechanics, you may like them i did not.

If your in the military you get 6 months free if you utilize your .mil ako address to register, worth it if your serving.

small pop and still declining, they have consolidated servers and i assume still putting out patches or fixes (expansions?) Worth a try, oh and it has repetitive land combat in the quests, which i am told have been fixed and have changed somewhat. Graphics, i would grade as ok on max settings by todays standards.

STO is based on PotBS.

You get a ship. You get into a spawned instances of ship combat. Then its turn turn turn until one of you dies and keep doing that until the mission 'completes'. Rinse and repeat 600 million times. Or, in both games, do a land mission. Then its incredibly clunky and tedious FPS mode - and you do the same 6 missions over and over and over again till you get jack and cancel your sub....say about 3 weeks.

During Beta - a lot of fun. As soon as it went live Flying Labs did everything they could to kill the game. I'm surprised it hasn't gone F2P or died yet.
