Mention "Skaven" to your average Warhammer Online player, and you'll be treated to an almost instant recitation of all the reasons why the race ought to be playable. It appears that players might be due to get that wish -- as well as a few more wishes -- with the announcement of the RvR pack for the game. Although we only have the broadest strokes of an outline for the pack, it promises to expand the game's core focus of PvP with an increase in the renown ranks to 100.
Executive Producer Carrie Gouskos has confirmed the involvement of the Skaven, although she's stated that they'll not be playable directly from level 1. How the integration will take place is unclear, as are most of the fine details, although the pack will clearly be a big change for the game's overall structure. The pack is also meant to move away from the "huge expansion" model that's common in the MMO genre, with the company presumably moving to several smaller expansions on a quicker timetable. It's good news for Warhammer Online players to see what's coming around the bend, especially if players can run about sowing chaos as ravenous rat-men.

"more exciting than hey end game contant only a few will experince."
I'm guessing you no longer play WAR. Anyone rank 40 can experience the killing the opposing faction's king now. A few patches ago before they changed the city encounters your statement was true.
On Badlands server we are invading or defending a city several times a week.

The problem is Gauge, that sacking the same city over and over again gets old. Which is why I canceled my subscription.

The PvE cap might be rank 40 but the real cap is RR 80 and the magority of players are not RR 80 yet. They would of been better off anoucing two news races a new pairing rather than Skaven (not playable at level one we want to do some thing differnt) and 20 more rvr ranks. But the full anoucement comes this saturday so maybe there will be more to come but its not excatly setting the MMO world on fire.

If their smart they will take what they learned from DAOC (finally) and add a third faction to the rvr. Two sided pvp is, and always will be, imbalanced as hell. One side always ends up slightly stronger which draws all the fair-weather fanbois. Then you end up with WoW style server imbalances of 3 or 4 to 1. In a 3 sided rvr world though the two weaker sides can easily gang up on the stronger and often do.

I remember from old-school DAoC where Mid and Hib would often gang up against the Alb zergs. Granted, some servers were fairly even but a lot of servers had a huge Alb population advantage.
If anyone wants to see the reaction of the expansion news plus the sov set overall just read the boards. Basically Mythic has decided to cater to the elite few that are already RR80. Today is the last day of my 10 day free return to WAR bonus. /Cancel
Those that are wearing full sovereign sets are using insta-gib rifles in a regular deathmatch game. Adding another 20 RR's on top will only increase the power divide. Good luck with an empty game....

Too bad the game engine still sucks and is plagued by gameplay that feels like you're in molasas, complete with MythicSeconds™.

I'm thinking Skaven will be a 3rd Faction going the Death Knight via WoW route (gotta have a 40 on one of the previous sides, then you can make a new Skaven as a 3rd Faction character)
This will cut down on the amount of Zones they need to add via a expansion.

This is a fine piece of PR work! A nice teaser (OMG Skaven!), the tiniest tid-bit of information (raising renown cap, lowering the RR curve), and then a nice dose of expectation management to follow it up (oh, this isn't one of these big expansions).
So I have to ask, if this isn't a big "every 2 years" expansion, what exactly have they been working on the past 2 years? =)

Fixing everything that didn't work right at Launch. No one really denies that.

I know, just poking fun because of the way it was worded in the article. They don't want to "Release a huge expansion every 2 years." yet the expansion is announced 2 weeks from the 2 year anniversary of the launch.
