We've known for a while now that Star Wars: The Old Republic is planning to offer players two different specializations for each class, but up until now we've only heard of a couple of them. Today at Gamescom, however, BioWare unloaded the names and loose descriptions of ten advanced classes. The best part? No Bothans died for this information.
Darth Hater reports that imperial agent characters will have the choice between specializing as snipers (long-range DPS) or operatives (who use stealth and short-range weapons to get up close and personal). If a bounty hunter is more to your liking, then the choice between a powertech and a mercenary should get your imagination racing. Over on the Republic side, troopers will sign up for either commando or vanguard training. Commandos are the tanking line, although we don't know much about vanguards yet. SWTOR-Station spied a Zabrak trooper at the BioWare booth, indicating another possible race for the class.
Force-users are also in store for powerful upgrades. The villainous Sith inquisitors choose their path between a more Force-happy sorcerer or the twin lightsaber-using assassin. Their counterpart, the Jedi consular, has a similar decision to make: that of a shadow, who can use double-bladed lightsabers, or a wizard, who uses a single lightsaber but can heal. Are Star Wars fans ready for wizards and sorcerers in their MMO? Somehow, we think so.

@jettoki fair enough but my understanding of that was the jedi were in decline so not a lot was known about them, wizzard would be a fitting title for a generic reference but in the old republic era it just doesn't seem to fit... ah well that's not going to make me hate swtor :P

I doubt they will call the class "wizard". I'm sure it will have a starwarzy name.
Even so, if you met someone with force powers wouldn't you classify that person as a wizard? Meh, no big deal to me.
Give me lighting shooting out of my fingertips, mentally induced blasts of gravitationally altering air bursts from my palms and a light stick that will slice through anything and you can call me a wizard if you like.

I disagree with all the upset over "wizard" or "sorcerer" as a title. Don't see any problem with it, the whole force thing is very mystical, and these kinds of titles are part of the mythos - the "witches of Dathomir" (think that was their names), sith "alchemy", various others if you search the big Star Wars wikki you see all kinds of these titles in the extended lore from the books and comics.

"Consular" instead of "counselar."
As more of a movie Star Wars fan than an Expanded Universe follower I don't know if "Wizard" is an accepted fit for a class name or not. Yet if there is a way around using that name it would be nice.
Kudos to BioWare for giving out large doses of info this week. If we can just arrange a convention each week, we should have all the info we'd ever want in our eager paws by the middle of October ...

Wizards and sorcerors sound good. Somehow I suspect I'm not the only one who thought all this "force" thing is actually just some spiffy magic stuff.
I mean, Darth Vader can force choke someone over a communications link. There's no amount of sci-fic that can possibly explain it, except "a wizard did it".

Before anyone freaks out, jedis were referred to as wizards in a New Hope by Uncle Owen (that wizard's just a crazy olde man), and also, again in New Hope, Vader's 'ways' are described as "sorcerous", right before he chokes out the general at the table in the Death Star.
Perfectly acceptable advanced class names. Wizardry and sorcery are applicable to force users.

would've preferred something more kotor-ish or even swg-ish, like force adept or force wielder over wizard. that term 'wizard' is more for people who dont give a f*ck about the force since jedi were nearly extinct in ANH..

I think that the terms "wizard" and "sorcerer" is used by the reporter as a cheek move to describe the overall "feel and play" of the said classes. And I do hope that the reporter had enough in-game footage for such assumptions.

I watched ANH yesterday and it sounds like wizard and sorcerer are derogatory terms when applied to force users...

No love for the smuggler? Never any love for the smuggler. Well we don't need it!
I'll take a wild guess...
Scoundrel - DPS
Rogue - CC, Heals
Rex "Putting the smug back in smuggler"
