The item shop was the deal breaker for me. When this game was first announced I was stoked. And then they announced the item shop, and that it's most prominent use would be ship modules and upgrades. After that, I deleted my Black Prophecy bookmarks and stopped following the development.

I wish they had chosen a P2P model instead.

Oh well. There's still SW:ToR, I guess.

so you are choosing a wow-clone which destroyed kotor franchise over (possibly) the most awesome space mmorpg, because you can buy stuff in there?....

wow.

If the item shop is all it took for you to leave the game, I don't think you were that "stoked" in the first place. F2P has been done well before, so why can't BP do the same? They have mentioned numerous times that anything available in the item shop will be available in-game, and the whole theme of the item shop is "time vs. money." BP is free to play and free to try. I still encourage you to try the game and if you don't like it, guess what? You can uninstall it at no cost to you. Even if you have apprehensions about the item shop, which is understandable given the amount of F2Ps that are "pay to win," trying the game first is free, and who knows? You might decide you like it after all.

I can't wait to try this game! Although I thought it was going to be more instanced, if they're saying it's persistent then that's good news.

Yeah 'cause ToR is pure wow clone with elves, orcs and other fairy forest gay creatures.

/sarcasm

The BP could be something refreshing, unless its CS becomes place where you can buy viagra for your e-peen

@Unknown

Yep. I don't buy into item-shop or MT business models. I believe they exclude the more frugal players and focus development in the wrong areas.

Either it's a very aggressive item shop model or it's an extended trial model (what people call the "Western F2P"), the second still features an item shop, so no thanks to both.

Is a subscription model also available? I find pure item shop F2P games annoying and prefer to just subscribe until I lose interest.

I've read nothing to make me think the item shop is going to be more than pretty parts and xp potions. So what if someone else is too lazy to play through the game to get the same stuff you work for. There is a matchmaking system that will keep you from playing ppl who are uber up and above you unless you are in the open areas.

Lol, i didn't realse this wasn't a new EVE xpac trailer till the end.

The whole time i was watching it i was thinking to myself "Damn EVE is starting to get some exciting combat", but it was just an EVE rip off.

Yeah, and every single Fantasy MMO trailer of any random Fantasy MMO looks completely different than the very few others...

Also, if BP is like EVE but with arcady combat, I am all for it. And I am saying that as a very satisfied EVE subscriber.
The item shop is something I am somewhat suspicious of though.

How is it an Eve rip off? Because it is in space? Because it has darker graphics? It has nothing in common with Eve beyond that. You manually control a fighter and have to aim at what you are trying to hit. It's not select target and let your weapons and skills do their thing.

If you are going to call it a rip off, at least try to be accurate and honest. Maybe if you had drawn comparisons to Jumpgate which was an mmo, you would have a leg to stand on. Or Wing Commander and X-Wing, Tie Fighter, or Freelancer which the producers actually said is the feel they were going for.

@dudemanjac. Sounds like you haven't taken your meds today.

Calm down and look at this game, now look at EVE, they look exactly the same.

Learn to figure things out for your self. If you can't tell it's a rip off from this trailer then you must be brain damaged.

Actually I have had my meds today. What I can't figure out is how you can call this an Eve rip off. When one is an action game and the other is a point and click space industry simulator.

But since you are incapable of figuring thing out for yourself (like the first 10 seconds that tell you who make the game and *gasp* it's not CCP or the article that tells you it's a new game OR the TITLE OF THE ARTICLE), I'll just accept that you have what you want to say out there regardless of how correct it is. I guess in your mind, any game that comes out that offers combat and crafting in space is going to be an Eve clone, regardless of the fact that Eve didn't do it first.

warcraft 3 and world of warcraft looks kinda same to me too, does it make one of them to be the rip off of the other?

Well I don't know if it's a rip off if it's from the same company.

I'm excited for this game. Hopefully it is enough for me to want to kill my STOL account. Can't see paying for STOL with BP and Battlestar Gar coming our as FTP. You know.

Good trailer, I like the soundtrack and the game seems like it has potential but needs to offer more than just dog-fight combat as that will get real old real quick. The battles need to mean something and have consequences otherwise its just a facebook game.

I would not call it a Facebook game if the battles don't mean anything. Battles in World of Warcraft don't really mean anything (other than getting loot) either really - and no one is calling it a facebook game.

I am sure like every other MMO, you will fight because someone gave you a quest (likely you just skip the quest text and just head to the fight) and when you compete it you get currency, items, fame or all three.

Hopefully, there might be a bit of a sandbox universe like EvE. I always liked EVE, but the space combat bores me. I would kill for an EvE game where you actually pilot by stick your starships, and large battle cruisers and such can only be flown by guilds and NPC factions requiring many people to operate.
