In SWTOR's Deceived trailer, there was an odd shot of the Jedi leader giving a signal to an astromech droid. Per usual, the writers at BioWare do not put anything into their trailers without a specific reason. This past Friday, that little droid was revealed to be a companion for the Jedi knight class, named T7-O1 (tee seven - oh one). This little bot calls back to both T3-M4 of Knights of the Old Republic and, of course, R2-D2 of the Star Wars movies. In fact, his attitude is very similar to R2-D2's. According to the companion page on SWTOR's official site, he considers his owners to be more like partners and less like masters.
T7-O1 was activated over two centuries before the Treaty of Coruscant and has yet to be memory-wiped in that whole time. He remembers every organic he has ever worked with, from the petty smugglers, to Senator Oodora of Manaan, to Captain Nico Okarr, and to Jedi Master Ven Zallow, whom we witnessed being killed by Darth Malgus in the previously mentioned trailer. For your Jedi knight character, you can expect this droid to be an invaluable source of information. His surveillance, cartography, and data-slicing skills are unmatched.
BioWare has not revealed where your Jedi knight will meet T7-O1, just like every other companion mentioned for this game, but rest assured, he's waiting for you somewhere in that galaxy far, far away.

By the way people complain about each and every upcoming MMO, you'd think these people would realize that they "hate" MMOs. Or maybe they should hate games in general being so picky. I bet it sucks to go through life and never anticipate something great and be so damn negative about every new game that comes out. What a pathetic life some must live.

Can we change the look of our companions? Or would there be some sort of random look generated for each companion.?
At least that way they won't all look like cookie cutter clones. :p

T7-O1 wants to lay off the (micro?)chips the chunky little bleeder!
Seriously though, i know people want a lot of different companions to choose from but i think Bioware want to give each one a lot of personality to make them deeper more individual characters. How this will affect your need or want to team up with RL players is anyones guess...

As long the companions are fully customizable (name, clothing, appearance etc..) I don't have a problem with everyone in the same class havin the same ones.

So people can talk smack but if they have an opinion in support of the game they = fanboy ? w/e.
P.S. people talking about this game alienating the "mmo fanbase" have me LMAO, the fanbase are the UO, EQ, AC players ( the games targeted at pen and paper roleplayers.) , the rest of you are noobies.

amen brother. Seems like those who harshly keep criticizing every single bit of info about TOR, despite not knowing absolutely how the game will play, see the few of us who are genuinely looking forward to it as mindless fanbois. But what are you going to do, at least Massively ain't like VG247 where the comments are complete and utter drivel

The companion characters in LOTRO skirmishes add a lot to the game: another level of character advancement, more customization, more depth in build/group choices, etc. It's awesome to be able to have your companion cover whatever class your group most needs.
I think having companion characters in SWTOR, especially if they look at what LOTRO did right, will be a very very good thing. I'm looking forward to it.
