Tweet For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. So says sage Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope (of course he conveniently leaves out the fact that the Order also kidnaps babies for indoctrination, but hey no one's perfect!). Following on from the guardian of peace and justice motif, BioWare has released the first bits of information on Advanced Classes for Star Wars: The Old Republic's Jedi Knight characters, confirming rumors that have been circulating for the past week.
Advanced Jedi Knights come in two flavors -- Guardians and Sentinels, with the former seemingly filling the traditional tank role and the latter using dual lightsabers to pump out the damage. Interestingly, the Sentinel Holonet description mentions "control and focus are the hallmarks" of the class. Could that be a nod to crowd control abilities as well? Be sure to check out the official SWTOR website for the updated Jedi Knight Holonet entry as well as a brief video showing the class in action, found just after the jump.

I wonder if that video is any in-game footage? because the running animation looks tons better if so.

Looks like in game graphics to me. Not too bad at all.

Yeah the graphics look fine - I don't know what all the whiners keep complaining about. Sure, SW:TOR isn't as pretty as GW2, but was anyone seriously expecting it to be considering both IPs? I wouldn't want SW:TOR looking too "pretty" anyway - this IP is supposed to be about a gritty/grimy universe.
My sole complaint is that the Jedi Knight's hairstyle looked a little too close to something you'd see in EQ2 for my liking.

They've come quite a ways from the first footage shown. Animations aren't looking like they're skipping frames anymore. Character models looking a lot less Barbie doll plastic.
Keep it up BioWare.

the score of this video is absolutely ridiculous. All Star Wars tracks just mashed together? I hope they got some talented artists to get it right for the finished game.

It does appear the character animations and graphics are improving bit by bit... I hope this continues!

This is a surprisingly well made video, considering its length. I Love the Tatooine gameplay footage and it made a compelling case for wanting to play Jedi. I can't wait. For. This. Game.

As a life long fan of Star Wars, and someone who has spent the last decade playing many MMOs, I am really anticipating this game, so I don't want anyone to think I'm being negative necessarily. But... does it bother anyone else with the visual style of the armors they are using for the force wielding classes in this game? It reminds me an awful lot of the Clone Wars cartoons, where all the jedi are seen wearing this sort of ballistic/plastic stormtrooper style body armor. I suppose it's fine, and even rational, considering they're in a war, and constantly in battle. It's simply not the way I picture the iconic force users in my mind. Take a look at the films. They dress like monks. Simple robes, cloaks, tunics, etc. I'll probably catch some flak for this, but for some reason felt compelled to point it out.

It depends on what advanced class you play for your Jedi Knight. If you play the Guardian tank class you are going to be wearing more heavy armor like we see in the Clone Wars cartoon. But if you chose the DPS build, they will be wearing mostly just robes and light armor. So there will still be just the plane robes look from the DPS Knight, and also from the Jedi Consular, but the Jedi Knight tank will be wearing the heavy armor.

@ Budokan
I totally agree with you. I never liked the idea of jedi/sith wearing body armour. It doesn't fit the philosophy. But as long as I can create a more traditional looking Jedi and I'm not forced into wearing heavy armour, then I am fine with it.

they'll fine tune graphics during the final phase. Not worried at all, since 1) I don't care much about them and they don't look half-bad and 2) I only need to know about instances/raids. My lifetime money is ready to go into their pockets

I just wish they'd hurry up and release it so they can go back to making a real KOTOR game someday.

Except TOR is being made by a studio(BioWare Austin) that was created specifically to make this game and only this game, with the only shared staff being a couple writers. Also except for the fact that if BioWare really wanted to make another KotOR game, they wouldn't have shipped the KotOR2 off to another studio(Obsidian Studios) and would've done it themselves.
Is it that hard to comprehend that maybe BioWare never wanted to do a KotOR 2(or 3) and maybe they just really wanted to make an MMO? If you want a KotOR 3 so much, you make it. Give us the story of how we continue the story of Revan and the Jedi Exile.
