Soul Master bills itself as a "genre-bending, free-to-play MMORTS," offering players MMORPG-style control over their characters while maintaining a style of RTS gameplay.
Can they deliver? Well, that's an answer that will vary from player to player, but the best way to find out is to try it for yourself. Current closed beta testers have been enjoying the game, but now GamesCampus is ready for the next step.
Open beta testing begins for Soul Master today, so anyone who wants to give the game a try can sign up and join the testing. If you've been participating in the closed beta, there will be a character wipe, so this is your chance to start fresh and check out the new and improved version of Soul Master.

Looks interesting. I might have to fiddle around with it a bit.

The game graphics suggest they expect a player base age 7-12.

Looks like Aru needs to learn the difference between "expected audience" and "actual audience".

It looks interesting - I have yet to try an rts-type mmo

I think I'll wait for Kingdom Under Fire 2 for rts/rta/mmo fix

Cookie-cutter F2P MMO. Horrendously boring.

Coming from someone who named themselves purely to troll me, I'd suggest that you be to one to shut up.

FOR GODS SAKE.
PLEASE WRITE IN THE ARTICLE THAT THE SO CALLED "OPEN BETA" IS AMERICAN ONLY AND EUROPE IS LEFT OUT YET AGAIN.
Downloading the game only to get an annoying engrish message about "wrong territory" is ANNOYINGLY FRUSTRATING.

I agree, it should be said at the beginning, that it's only for American. Btw what about Europe, will there be open beta too ? No statements from Gamigo so far.

I'd also like to suggest Massively takes a little time to remember that many of its readers are not Americans and try to add in little details like which territories these Betas are for. Its happened a few times before and its quite irritating for the non Americans here.

I played this for a few hours and got a few laughs out of it. It seems pretty polished but the targeted audience is clearly below my age group. This is definetely a game I would have enjoyed 10 years ago.
Everything seems to be over the top "kawaii desu yooo ^_^" and the cash shop is already active even though this is a "beta". The controls seem to be extremely simplified with only 3 skills total being equitable/usable at any given time and I fail to see how this is remotely considered within the rts genre.
From what I can tell, the whole game is instanced and you hop onto instanced zones to kill monsters. You can get quests in town which is more or less a lobby zone as well as upgrade skills and buy things. The rts factor seems to be limited to just clicking e to summon your minions, which temporarily gives you a pet skill to spam bringing total skill usage up to a grand number of 4. If you are looking for real rts action like sc or c&c but in mmo form, this definitely isn't anything like that.
Furthermore it's worth pointing out that rts-mmorpg hybrids aren't anything new. I remember playing some space based rts-mmo like 5 years ago.

Well, the game still seems pretty early on - I think they're very shortly planning on adding more classes/skills etc.
Even with the new game vibe of it, I found the brief time I spent in it to be pretty enjoyable. It felt like Dragonica Online, not in gameplay but in the fact that's a fun MMO that isn't time demanding like the Big Ones. Easy to pop in and out of and with a level based feel.
All in all, I was pleased for a game in early beta.
But gods, it's probably because I'm soooooooo much younger than everyone here. Clearly that's the only reason I derived some enjoyment from it :P (And an emoticon ?!- how very 24 yrs of me)
Still I've got a vastly larger wallop of excitement for Everquest II Extended and LOTRO!

First off, this game is nothing like an rts. It sounds like guildwars, wow, warhammer, or other crap version of those. I'm tired of these types of games that only differ very little from each other. A real MMORTS with almost pure PvP is shadowbane but it's still in redevelopment with plans to launch soon. This game is a pathetic waste of time for me, you, and the developers (poor bastages). I was hoping for much more than what this has but I can't expect anything more than a WoW/Guild Wars remake. Realism is dead.
