I hope they use the 4e ruleset for it.

I'm just glad Turbine doesn't have anything to do with it. DD0 was a travesty.

Trust me, Cryptic is a very very large step back from Turbine. DDO might not have been a very good D&D game experience, but it was designed as it was planned. Cryptic is just 100% incompetent.

Also, Turbine did not develop DDO.

@ScottishViking:

Um, Turbine DID develop, and still does develop, DDO. What parallel universe are you living in?

It'll be shit no matter who makes it. Neverwinter Nights is about player-created content, not raids and 'phat l00tz'. An MMO is an utter desecration of the franchise.

I actually enjoyed CoH and Champions. Didn't like STO much but 2 our of 3 to me isn't bad.

Now if they just do like they did with STO and cut/paste CO to STO I dunno how I'll feel.

If someone can just make a game that really follows the D&D ruleset and has the D&D game feel in a well known D&D setting I'll buy it. DD0 should have been called Sewers and Sewers Online. I mean really, EQ is more of a D&D game than that.

Let me guess.

We get "unrivaled" character customization, a buggy engine, a "single server" model where all zones are instanced for every 5 people in it, and content to last untill about your next lunchbreak, while re-using 99% of the assets from CO and STO.

Say goodbye to a great franchise.

OMLG, that would be SOOO fantastic if there was a NWN's MMO.

But I echo the sentiments of MANY... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE let it not be Cryptic who develops this MMO. They are by far the worst MMO development studio.

CoX was an OKAY game, but it was made better by the studio which took it over. Champions Online was an utter disaster, and Star Trek Online was probably the biggest joke in all of Star Trek gaming (and a pretty competitive joke in the MMO industry in general).

PLEASSSSSSSSSSSE not Cryptic!!!!!! I would also love it if Atari kept their greedy hands off this title too, or we might see something like a stupid C-store attached to this game.

Someone sue them, and get the rights over to BioWare instead!

When Cryptic announces NWN Online, it will be as a F2P title.

Cryptic and Atari have already been tied to this NWN MMORPG release since around the time Champions Online launched.

I cringed then, and I'm still cringing now. Watching NWN being handed to Cryptic (and you know it's going to use that same horribly limiting CO/STO/zillion shards of doom engine) is like watching a lily being planted onto a dung heap.

DDO was developed overseas, with Turbine here managing it. Or they outsourced it when it was made. Right now who knows if they contract it or not.

WHAT?? :D Turbine created DDO by themselves, basing it on much improved Asheron's Call engine. Then they released LotrO on the same engine, modifying it for open world.

Really, guys, don't make me laugh :D. Google who has developed DDO. A tip: Turbine alone!

I own a copy of the old Gold Box D&D Neverwinter Nights on 5.25" floppies. I played the AOL version of NWN Online extensively as part of the premier guild Knights of the Round Table. I own the BioWare developed NWN, all of its expansions. I own the Obsidian developed NWN2 and all its expansions.

This will be the first NWN based game I will never play.

please not Cryptic, they've ruined How many extremely lucrative licenses now?

It's to the point I will not touch another title from them. Every one of thier games is identical to the last, just retextured. It's nuaseating that thier allowed to shovel out such crap.

But hey, I'd _love_ if Turbine made this "Neverwinter Online". You can say anything, but they really know D&D and their universes like no other developer. Just check posts of their developers, they're really deep into pen&paper D&D rules and lore.
Of course - DDO is a different game. It was made to be TPP, action-oriented and tactical hack 'n slash game. They can't change it now, that's what DDO players expect to receive. But their new modules (Adventure Packs) show that they have exceptionally talented storytellers - quests have many endings (in an MMO!) based on your actions, dialogs are deep and intelligent, there's that PnP feel to it.

So if anyone could make it right (other than BioWare), that's Turbine. All they'd need is a chance to do it, they're really experienced in D&D now, and getting only better at it.

Plus, Atari and Turbine removed their lawsuits against each other. I know Atari wants to support Cryptic and only Cryptic, but who knows? WotC would be VERY unhappy if they failed. And WotC are good friends with Turbine.
So maybe one of those 2 new Turbine MMOs is NwNO? They've already said they're working on player-made content and toolsets. We'll see.

Atari and Cryptic are two peas in a pod. Their incompetence never fails to astound me.

An MMO will completely alienate the existing NWN community, so if Atari expects to make any money with this they're going to have to tap into a completely new customer base.

Good luck with that.

WoW is gonna kick their butts and leave them wondering where their jewels rolled off to.
