EverQuest3!? Woot! Now if they incorporate the best open-world elements of Vanguard, and the best of EverQuest2 this could really be something! If they've learned... Have they learned? Well guess we'll see won't we?!

My guess is, it will be a wow/free realms hybrid and everything Everquest (except some of its lore) will cease to exist. (Talk about irony, clone of a clone)

What I'm hoping for, really is the Everquest 3 like you, but thats a very small chance in my opinion.

Zamav is right....the game will be a MMO fine tuned to make as much money as possible from a cash shop milking the players every chance they get and still charge a monthly subscription on top of that.

My first thought when I saw the swamp was, oh boy another Free Realms cash shop update...but then I read the title of the article.

Glad to hear EQ Next is moving along, can't wait for some details.

And they booted eq2 out of competition by making it f2p. Smart move because there are too many mmos.

Blizzard is going to one up them at blizcon though. Sony and EA are the only companies with the capital to compete. Kill the competition before it is born.

Concept art looks great, lets hope the game can equal it.

Actually, the swamp scene turns out to be a screenshot. Check the correction.

I sound like a broken record as much as I go on about it, but I really, truly hope this next Everquest game maintains the race selection (or at least something close to it) that EQ2 has.

Question: why bother if they are all animated exactly the same? (Obviously Frogloks and Fae/Asrai are different but that's two races.) It always struck me as fairly crap to have all those unique races and yet for them all to look, run, attack and cast exactly the same.

That was than. Six years ago, now? Something close to that.

The human-like races (half-elves, elves, etc.) could use similar skeletons and basic animations but the rest could be given distinctly different base models and animation sets to set them apart.

In the end, the only thing I could see that would discourage this would be the amount of work they're willing to put into armor and how it would fit the unique models of the more exotic races. Time will tell, as they say.

I'm guessing EverQuestNext is either going to be an Everquest themed Free Realms and/or a game for both PC and PS3.

Why is the next EverQuest game called ... EverQuest Next and not simply EverQuest 3? I'm guessing they are either changing it to another platform (facebook game? mobile phone game?) or making it significantly different in design.

Either way, hopefully it'll be an interesting game. I thought I would try EverQuest 2, but the artwork really turns me off.

I guess Everquest Next is just a project name for now, they'll probably change it to something more catchy later on.

A year or two after EQ2 was released, I remember reading an article from SOE's CEO (or some other executive) saying that they had made a mistake calling the game "Everquest 2". It didn't really aim at replacing EQ1 nor did was it really going for the same public. They probably will not call their game EQ3.

Didn't SOE announce that all future SOE titles would be playable on PS?

If thats the ingame art I would be thinking EQNext is a browser base game as they try to cash in on the MMO facebook market. This is SOE remember. They're driven by cash, not by quality.

I disagree. Free Realms IS quality... just driven by cash.
